Samsung Enters Japanese LTE Market

SEOUL, Korea – June 20, 2011 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, an advanced network solutions provider, today announced its provision of LTE solutions to KDDI, one of Japan’s largest telecom operators. KDDI and Samsung plan to launch a commercial LTE service in 2012.

 

During the past 10 years with the close business relationship based on shared values, KDDI and Samsung have established the goal to provide a high-quality of product and service. On the same lines, KDDI and Samsung intend to provide the best and differentiated LTE service to consumers as well.

 

Samsung aims to introduce the industry’s first and the most optimized LTE solution for hotspots in extremely dense user areas that require higher capacity mobile broadband, whilst simultaneously improving service quality in weak-signal areas.

Samsung has cooperated with KDDI to provide commercial CDMA systems since 2002. Through offering Mobile WiMAX solution to UQ Communications, an affiliated company of KDDI for mobile broadband services, Samsung and KDDI has strengthened their strategic partnership from 2008.

 

Based on its wide range of field experience in OFDMA technology, Samsung has successfully won 8 commercial LTE contracts and partnered with more than 30 global operators. Samsung has a strong position in the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) standardization process and is one of the most influential network solution providers, chairing three positions and three vice-chair positions across various working groups in the 3GPP. Additionally, Samsung owns more than 25% of total LTE IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) related to OFDMA technology, demonstrating its advanced levels of innovation in this field.
