SAMSUNG WiBro Received ‘2006 InfoVision Award’

Seoul, Korea, May 17, 2006 - Samsung Electronics, one of the most innovative telecommunication devices and equipments providers, received an honorable ‘2006 InfoVision Award’ by International Engineering Consortium (IEC).

The Award ceremony took place in Hong Kong, where Broadband World Forum 2006, the global broadband industry’s largest forum and trade show, is underway form May 15 to May 18. The event is organized by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) and attended by the world’s major telecommunications operators and hardware makers.

One of the highlights is the presentation of the IEC’s annual InfoVision Award, and on May 17 Samsung’s Wireless Broadband (WiBro, Korean brand name of Mobile WiMAX technology) technology was the winner in the Wireless Internet category.

The InfoVision Award is presented in eight distinct categories related to broadband such as Wireless Internet, Online Games, and Broadband Internet. The InfoVision Award recognizes technologies, applications, products, advances, and services judged to be the most unique and beneficial to the telecommunications industry. The selection criteria include innovation, ease of use, product and service quality and technology sophistication. Winner of 2006 finalists were selected from 100 submissions.

Kwansoo Lee, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Telecommunication Network Business, explains the significance of the InfoVision Award: “This is the official recognition by service operators and IT specialists of WiBro’s excellence. Samsung Electronics was the world‘s first to complete development of WiBro equipments, and commercial service is scheduled to begin this year. WiBro has caught public attention as a cutting-edge wireless technology that allows users to access the Internet while traveling at high speed.

Samsung has been working hard to establish WiBro as a global standard since 2005. Commercial service contracts have already been concluded in the US, Italy, Brazil, Venezuela and Croatia. Samsung’ WiBro is continuing to expand all over the world.
