Samsung microwave is not heating or has stopped working

Last Update date : 2024-01-18

If a microwave fails to initiate or generate heat, the primary cause often lies in its demo mode. This mode, employed on retail showroom displays, showcases microwaves without engaging their magnetron. Additionally, insufficient clearance or ventilation can impede microwave heating. If the microwave powers on but fails to heat, addressing specific settings and examining the installation can effectively assist in resolving the problem, applicable to both standard microwave and convection heating.

Note: Results from sensor cooking and auto-cooking may differ. If the food is warming adequately, there is no need for service. Occasionally, when preparing a minimal amount of food, enhancing cooking performance can be achieved by increasing the quantity.

1 Ensure that the microwave is not in Demo mode.

When a microwave is in Demo mode, all functions are accessible, but it does not generate any heat as the magnetron remains inactive.

A simple way to check for demo mode is to set a cooking time and start the microwave. In demo mode, the timer will count down much faster than usual.

  • If your unit is in demo mode, disable it. For models with an Options or My Settings button, navigate to option 6 in the menu, and setting it to 2 will deactivate demo mode. For other models, consult your user manual for guidance on exiting demo mode.

  • If your microwave is exhibiting faster countdowns without heating and demo mode is not mentioned in your user manual, please contact our Support Center to request service.
2 Inspect the Kitchen Timer feature.

Ensure that the Kitchen Timer option was not accidentally utilized instead of a normal cooking cycle.

3 Examine the door

Ensure that the door is fully sealed. If it's not completely closed, the microwave may operate without heating. Use a damp cloth to clean the microwave door and frame, as debris might be hindering proper closure.

Note: Over-the-range models come with specific clearance requirements and must be installed in accordance with the provided installation manual to ensure proper ventilation. If the microwave has not been functioning since installation, it is advisable to inspect the vent installation for any potential issues.

4 Confirm there is enough clearance on all sides.

Examine the spaces to the left, right, above, and behind the microwave. Clearance requirements differ between models and are specified in the user manual.

Inadequate clearance can hinder proper venting for the microwave. This may result in either a lack of heating or insufficient heat output.

Note: If the microwave continues to exhibit heating issues, please call our contact center to request service.
