How to set up the Universal Remote through MBR

Last Update date : 2024-01-11

How many remote controls do you have for your smart TV and connected external devices? Through the MBR feature, you only need one remote control to handle all of them. Enjoy the much more convenient experience that MBR offers.

What is MBR?

MBR stands for Multi Brand Remote Control, and it is also known as a Universal Remote or One Remote. This function will make you stop switching from remote to remote when using various devices connected to your TV. With a single Samsung remote, you can easily control all external devices, such as your home theater, game console, and Blu-ray players.

Initial MBR setup for a new TV

When you set up a brand new Samsung TV, there is a step for the MBR initial setting. Follow the instructions on the screen. To identify external devices, connect all of them to your TV and turn them on. Your TV will automatically detect and register the external devices.

If the Smart TV doesn't automatically detect the external devices, you can set up MBR directly on the TV. Follow the steps below to set up MBR manually.

Step 1. Press the Home button and then select Universal Remote on the Source menu.

Step 4. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish setting it up.

Note:

  • MBR feature is only supported by Bluetooth remote. However, from the 2019 model, the MBR function is supported even if it is not a Bluetooth remote.
  • Certain external devices connected to the TV may not support the MBR feature.
  • Make sure that there are no obstacles in front of the external device or your TV's logo. This can cause signal issues.
  • The device screenshots and menu are only a sample in English - they are also available in the language of your country.

The majority of popular TVs and household electronics are compatible with universal remotes, which are typically used to operate numerous devices. Although you may already own one if you have a remote for a cable or satellite set top box, Roku player, Fire TV, or gaming console, you may get a universal remote to operate your Samsung TV or projector.

Your Samsung gadget needs to be code-programmed into the universal remote for control. The majority of the time, these codes are preprogrammed, but if your Samsung remote isn't working, you'll need to get more codes from the remote's maker.

1 Power button does not work

If an external device does not turn on when the Power button on the Samsung remote is pressed, check the following.

  • Confirm Universal Remote Setup has been completed.
  • Confirm the current source and the source the external device is connected to are the same.

If following these instructions does not fix the problem, the external device might be providing the TV a "blank image." The device is still sending a signal to the TV suggesting that it is receiving power even though it is off. As a result, the TV will stop sending the "Power On" signal to the external device because it will assume that the device is switched on.

Use the device's own remote control or power button to restart it. This ought should enable it to display a picture on the screen once more. To further troubleshoot the item, you might need to get in touch with the manufacturer.

2 All buttons do not work

The front and sides of the One Connect Box emit IR signals. Verify where the One Connect Box and external device are located. Any of the following situations will prevent the universal remote from operating the device.

  • The external device is located in a different compartment than the One Connect Box.
  • The external device is located behind the One Connect Box.

Note:

  • When using a universal remote, some features and functions of your Samsung device may not be available.
