What is a gaming PC monitor?

Unlike our traditional gaming computer monitors, in addition to the high-resolution screens, Samsung Odyssey gaming screens are designed with specific, specialised technology, to create the best gaming experience possible and allow you to follow all the action interruption free. This specific technology includes quick response time, high refresh rate (measured in Hz) and Low Input Lag.

What is the best refresh rate (Hz) for gaming?

The refresh rate is one of the most important specifications to look at when searching for the best gaming screen. We recommend that, when looking for a good gaming monitor, you look for one with a refresh rate of 144Hz or higher. It is also extremely helpful for the monitor to have a response time of 1ms or less to reduce the input lag, gain a competitive edge and enjoy seamless gaming.

It compares the appearance of cars passing by on the screens at 240Hz, 144Hz, and 60Hz from above. The lower the refresh rate, the more afterimages appear behind the car.

Samsung’s specialist Odyssey gaming monitors boast incredibly high refresh rates, from a super-smooth 120Hz, all the way up to an epic 240Hz for the amazing Odyssey Neo G95NC.

Samsung has never had a monitor that we consider an Odyssey gaming monitor below 120Hz
and we have a selection of monitors with varying refresh rates from 120Hz all the up to an amazing 240Hz.

What is G-Sync and FreeSync?

This technology is found on all of Samsung’s Odyssey gaming monitors. G-Sync and FreeSync optimises the refresh rate of the GPU and panel together, eliminating issues with choppiness, screen-lag and image tears. Fast action and complex game scenes are stable and stutter-free, allowing for pinpoint accuracy when playing even the most competitive games.

In the racing game screen, the Sync function is compared with ON on the left and OFF on the right. When it is OFF, the image of the car is broken.

What is Auto Source Switch+?

Auto Source Switch+ enables your monitor to detect when connected devices are turned on and instantly switches to the new source signal. This helps you get to your game action faster, saving you from flipping through all the multiple input sources.

Curved screens

Curved gaming monitors such as the latest Samsung Odyssey Neo G95NC, are perfect if you’re looking for a truly immersive gaming experience. Filling your field of vision, they maximise your visual experience and create a more realistic feel. Curved screen gaming monitors work with any game but are particularly good for open-world games, first person action games and driving games where a more realistic, immersive experience helps you gain a competitive edge over others and increase your enjoyment whilst playing.

Flat screens

Flat gaming monitors are great for any gaming setup you have, enabling pin point accuracy without the need to move your head. This can make these screens perfect for first person shooting games and games which require zero peripheral distractions. Flat screens also create an easy same screen co-player gaming set up, allowing multiple players to have vision of the screen.

What is the perfect gaming monitor size?

Every gaming setup is different and that means different screen sizes and widths suit different spaces. Samsung’s Odyssey gaming range caters for this with monitors ranging in size from 24” all the way up to 57”. Therefore, no matter how much or little space you have there is a top quality Odyssey gaming monitor ready to take your game play to the next level. FAQs

  • Is a 144Hz monitor or a 165Hz monitor better for gaming?

A 165Hz monitor is better for gaming than a 144Hz monitor, as it has a higher refresh rate and the higher the hz rate the better as it results in smoother and more fluid gameplay. However, the difference in performance between 144Hz and 165Hz is not too noticeable and may not be worth the extra cost for some players. The choice between the two will ultimately depend on the player's budget and preferences. Samsung has never had a monitor that we consider an Odyssey gaming monitor below 120Hz and our gaming monitors go up to 240Hz.

  • If you want to create the best gaming setup and experience possible then a 4K gaming monitor can be worth it, as it offers a high resolution display with 4 times the number of pixels compared to a 1080p monitor, resulting in clearer and more detailed images. However, 4K gaming also requires a more powerful GPU to run games smoothly at this higher resolution, and may not be necessary for some players who are satisfied with lower resolutions. It is ultimately up to the player to decide whether the added visual quality is worth the cost and performance requirements.
