How to connect & pair your phone to car Bluetooth

Connecting your Galaxy device to your car makes journeys more enjoyable. Connect to your car stereo to make talking on the phone and listening to music easier. With certain cars you can also connect to your in-built display, allowing you to use your own navigation apps and control your device using your voice assistant.

There are many different ways of connecting your device to your car. The best method will depend on the device and car that you are using. Once connected, you may be able to control the volume and music playback using your car stereo system.

  • USB: Connect a USB cable to your device, then connect the other end of the cable to your car
  • Audio cable / AUX: Connect an audio cable to the headphone jack on your device, then connect the other end of the cable to your car stereo. On newer devices you may need to use a USB-C adaptor
  • Bluetooth: Turn on Bluetooth on your device and car. Refer to the user guide for your vehicle for more information. Open the Bluetooth settings on your device and tap the Bluetooth system of your car. If prompted, enter the pairing code displayed on your phone to complete the connection. • Cassette player: If your car has a cassette player, you can use a cassette adapter to connect. Insert the cassette adapter into the cassette slot on the stereo, then connect the other end to the headphone jack on your device. On newer devices you may need to use a USB-C adaptor. Please note: cassette adapters are sold separately.

Once connected, change the audio source on your stereo to your specific connection method. You will be able to control the sound coming from your device through the stereo but most other features, such as navigation and calling will have to be controlled through your device. If you've set up a voice assistant like Bixby you will be able to control your device hands-free.

Driving apps are specially designed to provide a hands-free service so you can use some parts of your device while driving. Some driving apps can connect to the display in your car, however most will work just as well on screen of your device.

Please note: from the 1st June 2020, MirrorLink and Car Mode are no longer available on Samsung devices. We recommend using Android Auto instead.

Android Auto
