Ferenc Marx, Managing Director of Aria Hotel Budapest, states, “Running a hotel means ensuring the comfort of each and every guest, all through the year. Aria Hotel Budapest welcomes around 30,000 guests to 49 rooms over the course of a year. This means, during the summer heat waves we have to create a cool atmosphere, and during winter we must offer warm and cosy rooms to those who choose our hotel. To this end, we selected Samsung to equip our hotel with a sophisticated heating and cooling system that also provides for hot water. One of the main reasons why we have chosen Samsung’s DVM S system is that Samsung heat pumps can do all of this in an energy-efficient way. Our hotel does not use natural gas and the Samsung heat pumps run only on electricity. This is a very important environmental and sustainability aspect for us.”

One of the common problems when it comes to outdoor units is that a lot of roof space is needed. Usually, every hotel room would need its own outdoor unit, hydro unit, and control unit. This takes up space and makes the roof overcrowded. However, Samsung’s centralized solution, besides being more efficient, also takes up less space. It also helps generate domestic hot water in a simpler way. Since the building is located in a historic district of Budapest, close to the iconic building of the Basilica, it was also important that the outdoor units do not interfere with the historic atmosphere of the neighborhood.

The Samsung systems have been running in the hotel since its opening in 2015. Gábor Fodor, Operational Manager of Aria Hotel Budapest explains, “Thanks to the central control, we can reach every single unit on the same system from our control room. The hydro units provide hot water for the rooms, the kitchen and the spa. The air handling units supply fresh air, and the ducted indoor units are responsible for the cooling and heating of the rooms. We really love working with the Samsung systems because of their high level of efficiency and the intuitiveness of the units. We can safely rely on Samsung for the technical needs of our facility. They definitely help make our lives easier so we can focus on the wellbeing of our guests.”

There are 6 separate 3-pipe VRF systems in the building, so there is a possibility for heat recovery between the different indoor units. In the hotel rooms, there are covered ducted indoor units. The heat exchangers of the air handling units are also supplied by the DVM S systems, plus the domestic hot water and floor heating hot water are generated by the hydro units. These units each have 25 kW heating capacity and are capable of 80°C water production. This is a great benefit for the hotel, as this water temperature is needed in the spa. Thanks to the heat recovery process, it is possible to utilise the transferred heat from the cooled areas and use this for hot water production - this greatly increases the energy efficiency of the entire system.
