  • Step 1 - Back up to iCloud

    Using iCloud, you can transfer the following content to your Samsung Galaxy device: contacts, photos, text messages, calendar events, alarms & Wi-Fi settings, call history, browser bookmarks and your application list.

    To avoid disruptions in text messaging service, please change your iMessage settings here

  • Step 2 - Get the Smart Switch™ Mobile app

    Samsung Galaxy S 6 users:

    When you set up your new device, you’ll be prompted with a pop-up link to download the Smart Switch app. Tap “DOWNLOAD AND OPEN” to start the installation.

    Other Samsung smartphone users:

    Download the app on the Google Play Store or the Galaxy Apps store. Search for the app on either store on your device, and install to get started. Download on Google Play

    Note: you do not have to download Smart Switch onto your iPhone or iPad.

  • Step 3 - Start the transfer

    Select "Import from iCloud" and enter your Apple ID and password. If you have multiple device backups on your iCloud account, select the source device. Choose the content you wish to transfer and tap, "Let’s start the transfer." Smart Switch allows you to transfer your basic data first, and then move on to larger data such as messages and multimedia.

  • Step 4 - Find your apps fast

    You’ll see Android apps equivalent to those you had on your iPhone. Simply tap any of these apps to launch Google Play Store and tap "Install". Tap "Recommendations" to see which apps did not have an exact match. Selecting a specific app in this list will display the recommended apps.

  • Step 5 - Transfer your music

    You can transfer music from iTunes following the instructions here.

  • Step 1 - Back up your device

    Connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac with a USB cable. Then, back up using iTunes.

  • Step 3 - Time to transfer

    Launch Smart Switch on your computer and select your device. Select the content you wish to transfer. Tap OK.

  • Step 4 - Find your apps fast

    Download and launch the Smart Switch Mobile app from Google Play™ onto your Galaxy smartphone. Select your matching apps and download them from Google Play.
    Tap "Recommendations" to see which apps did not have an exact match. Selecting a specific app in this list will display the recommended apps.

  • Step 1 - Download the Smart Switch Mobile app

  • Step 2 - Connect devices

    An OTG cable for your new Galaxy device and compatible charging cable* for iOS device are required. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect. A pop-up will appear on your iOS device. Tap “Trust,” and then “Next.”
    *iOS Lightning or 30-pin dock connector will be needed to connect to the iOS device.

  • Step 3 - Transfer and choose your content

    Select content and/or data you’d like to transfer from iTunes.

  • Step 1 - Switching from an Android

    Download the Smart Switch Mobile app on both devices

    Samsung Galaxy S 6 users:

    You’ll also need to download the Smart Switch Mobile App on your old device.

    Select your content and start transfer

    To connect the devices successfully, make sure both devices are within 4 inches of each other. On your old device, select the content you wish to transfer (contacts, calendar, pictures, music, videos, apps and more) and tap "Transfer." Now tap "OK" on your new Samsung Galaxy device to receive all of your selected content.

    Content from your old SD card can also be transferred when both devices are connected.

  • What is Samsung Smart Switch?

    Samsung Smart Switch consists of two apps that allow you to transfer your data and apps from older Samsung devices, other Android devices, and iPhones to your new device. Note that these tools need to be downloaded and installed separately, since they are standalone apps:

    • Samsung Smart Switch Mobile App: Smart Switch Mobile allows you to download a variety of content from your iPhone (either via iCloud® or using OTG cable) or Android device to your Galaxy. For more information, visit the Smart Switch Support page here
    • Samsung Smart Switch for PC/Mac: Smart Switch for PC/Mac lets you back up the data and apps list from your old Samsung device to a PC or Mac and transfer virtually all of them to your new Samsung device. If you have backed up your iPhone data to your PC or Mac using iTunes, you can use the Smart Switch for PC/Mac app to transfer the content to your new Samsung device.

  • What devices are supported by Smart Switch for PC/Mac?

    To transfer content using Smart Switch for PC, you need:

    • New device: Samsung mobile device with Android 4.3 or later
    • One of the following older devices:
      • - Samsung device with Android 4.0 or later
      • - iPhone with iOS 4.2.1 or later
  • Can I transfer music purchased from iTunes®?

    Music purchased from iTunes® after January 6, 2009 can be transferred using Smart Switch for PC/Mac. Content purchased prior to that date is encrypted using Digital Rights Management (DRM) and cannot be transferred.

    Music transfer using Smart Switch Mobile is not currently available, but is on the roadmap for a future update.

    For now, use the Smart Switch PC/Mac tool to transfer your music. Go to www.samsung.com/smartswitch on your PC or MAC desktop.

  • Does any of my old content get overwritten when transferring content?

    No, your data is not overwritten. Existing content such as contacts and SMS messages remain on your device when the new content is added to your new device.
