Husk takes an ecosystem approach to rural electrification, recognising that transforming lives requires not only generating, transmitting and selling electricity from its mini grids but it also requires appliances to open up new opportunities. Husk customers care especially about the brand, design aesthetic and service support behind those appliances.

Husk and Samsung Partnership:

In association with Samsung, Husk is helping customers to access appliances (televisions, refrigerators, washing machines), often for the first time and often to augment small family-owned businesses. Husk and Samsung shook hands in 2021 to supply consumer electronics to address this unserved market. Samsung is a key supplier in the communities where Husk is operating its more than 200 mini grids. Husk is present in India, as well as Sub-Saharan Africa, including Nigeria. Husk offers credit financing to help in purchasing appliances, which many customers otherwise wouldn't be able to afford on a cash payment basis.
 
To date, Husk and Samsung have sold about 4,000 appliances and served approximately 15,000 customers in rural parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Products like Smart TVs have enabled customers to connect to the broader world and learn new skills through digital information apps, while refrigerators have allowed shopkeepers to earn more by selling refreshments, and washing machines have reduced the work, allowing more time for other activities. Husk uses a mobile-based app to create customer awareness and interest, but its primary focus is on educating customers about their options, decision-making parameters and buying journey. Husk also has a customer support call center, and offers home delivery, 24/7 local service and support, and credit to not-on-credit-spectrum customers to ensure the appliance purchased is not just a product, but a fulfilling addition to the customer’s life.
