Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. (JVVNL) is a Government of Rajasthan entity that supplies electricity in Rajasthan. To help them digitise their billing methods, BCITS - an IT solutions provider - developed the ‘Bijli Mitra’ app. This enabled JVVNL to carry out spot billing operations through smartphones. Portable printers used synchronised data from electricity meters to print bills on the spot.
Samsung enables electricity meter spot billing in Rajasthan
Jun 03. 2021Challenges
- With manual billing, JVVNL dealt with poor operational efficiency and increased losses
- Manual billing left greater room for human error in terms of data handling, management and processing
- It resulted in wastage of time, as it took 30 days from the meter reading to deliver the bill to the consumer
- Hardware compatibility issues amongst other components had to bead dressed in order to run the spot billing platform
Solution
BCITS teamed up with Samsung to resolve the challenges in the spot billing platform. The spot billing machines used GPRS based smartphones.
- Using Knox/Android SDK, security policies were deployed to specifically make it a billing device
- There was no room for human error as the data was managed and processed automatically
- It eliminated time wastage by instantly generating and printing bills at the consumers’ doorstep
- Samsung Research and Development team worked with BCITS to create technological solutions that fixed the application and hardware issues
Result
- Ultimately, the spot billing platform facilitated smoother operations for JVVNL
- Consequently, by switching to digital billing, the process became more transparent
- Hence, the cash flow was also improved due to the reduced time cycle of the bill payment from 45 days to 15 days
- Therefore through extensive innovation, Samsung Research and Development team, Accounts team, and BCITS ensured the success of this project
