Which schools are eligible to participate in the contest?

Middle and high school students in grade 6-12 from publicly financed schools are eligible to participate. Charter schools that derive at least 50% of their operating funds from public sources are also eligible. All applications must be submitted by someone 21 years or older, who is employed by the school.
Do I have to be a STEM teacher?

No, this contest is open to ALL teachers regardless of the subject taught. However, the topic of this contest focuses on STEM solutions.
Does it matter whether my class is virtual or in-person?

No, the Solve for Tomorrow contest is open to all classroom formats, whether your district is on a virtual, in-person, or blended model.
Does class size affect eligibility?

No, class size is not a factor. However, we have seen more success with groups that involve more than one student.
Do I have to break the class up into groups or can this be an exercise for the whole class?

How you divide your classes is entirely up to you. In the past, group sizes have ranged between 4-60 students. You should do what works best for your teaching style and the dynamic of your class. However, participating students must be in 6th-12th grade.
How do I know the status of my application?

You will receive a confirmation email after submission. You may also check in on your application status by logging into your Samsung account on www.samsung.com/us/solvefortomorrow/signin/.
How do I know if I am selected to move on to the next phase of the contest?

The Samsung team will communicate to you our decision at every phase through email and/or phone. You may also log in to your Samsung account on www.samsung.com/us/solvefortomorrow/signin.
How can I make sure I do not miss any information about the contest from Solve for Tomorrow?

Add solvefortomorrow@sea.samsung.com to your safe sender list on your email and check your spam/junk folders to make sure you didn’t miss anything.
Will the contest events be in person this year?

Yes, both the Pitch Event and Final Event announcing National Winners will be in person.
How many people can come to the in-person events?

From each National Finalist School, there is a total of 4 guests that can come to the final events. At least 1 teacher/chaperone and at least 2 students. State and federal COVID-19 protocol and guidelines will be followed and enforced at all in-person events.
What will I win if I am a State Winner, National Finalist or National Winner?

State Winners will each win a $12,000 prize package, National Finalists will each win a $50,000 prize package, and National Winners will each win a $100,000 prize package. One Community Choice winner and one Employee Choice winner will each win an additional $10,000 prize. They will be chosen from the 10 National Finalists. All prize packages except for the State Winner prize packages are fulfilled through DonorsChoose.org, where teachers will be able to select at least 75% Samsung technology or products, and the remainder in class resources, equipment, or materials for your school.

An additional $50,000 Sustainability Innovation Award prize package will be awarded to a State Winner who is chosen as the Sustainability Innovation Award winner. For details on prize redemption, please refer to the Official Rules.

No purchase necessary to enter or win in the Samsung “Solve for Tomorrow” Education Contest. Open to legal residents of the 50 United States, 21 or older & currently employed at a public school teacher, grades 6–12. Contest begins 8/29/23. For Official Rules and judging criteria, click here.
