An Exciting Opportunity
An Exciting Opportunity
An Exciting Opportunity

What makes the Taylor project so exciting is its potential to positively impact the lives of people around the world and in its own backyard.

Samsung broke ground on the project in early 2022 with the goal of launching operations in 2024. Our Taylor facility will boost the production of semiconductor solutions that will power next-generation technologies in areas like 5G, artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC). With greater manufacturing capacity, we will be able to better serve the needs of our customers and contribute to the stability of the global semiconductor supply chain.

For Taylor, located less than 30 minutes from the Texas state capital of Austin, our investment will bring thousands of new jobs and valuable training. Together with our existing manufacturing site in Austin, the facility will allow us to open up exciting opportunities for Central Texans for years to come.

Let's take a moment to put the sheer size of this investment in perspective. Since 1996, Samsung has invested $18 billion in total for the Austin site. Samsung plans to invest a minimum $17 billion in this build-out – $6 billion in buildings and other real property improvements, and $11 billion in machinery and equipment.

The economic impact for Taylor and Williamson County has been substantial. In 2023, Samsung’s Austin manufacturing site along with the Taylor construction site injected $26.8 billion into the local economy —nearly doubled compared to $13.6 billion in 2022. In 2023, construction activities at the Taylor site injected $11.6 billion into the local economy and supported a total of 8,897 direct and 9,264 indirect construction jobs. In the same year, operations at the Taylor site pumped $115 million into the region while supporting 2,317 jobs in the area.

These incentives will boost city and county funds, producing long-term benefits for the community and positive implications for Taylor's overall development. The purchasing of goods and services from businesses and individuals in Taylor will further boost the area's economic development.

According to the Texas Comptroller’s Office, the City of Taylor’s cumulative sales and use tax revenue through February 2023 was $8.1 million—$5.5 million more than the same time period for fiscal year 2021-2022.

Samsung Austin Semiconductor understands the importance of being a good corporate neighbor. As such, we will work with our actual neighbors, partners, elected officials and the Taylor community to create an environment where we can all grow and thrive.

We are committed to working through any of the concerns that our neighbors have. We will continue our community outreach and provide construction updates throughout the process.

Just as semiconductors are essential to enabling the technologies of tomorrow, nurturing potential is an essential part of building a brighter future for the next generation. This is why, in addition to creating thousands of jobs, Samsung Austin Semiconductor is contributing to the development of programs designed to foster young people's growth.

As part of our investment in Taylor, Samsung Austin Semiconductor partners with the Taylor Independent School District to develop valuable skills for future careers and provide internships for students. In November 2023, we donated $1 million to Taylor ISD to bolster career and technical education for the semiconductor industry. In addition, we work with local workforce development organizations, colleges and universities to help build our talent pipeline.

Samsung Austin Semiconductor launched an internship program for Taylor High School students in the summer of 2022. As part of our commitment to the community, every summer we'll be hiring a minimum of 24 seniors who will work for six weeks at either the Samsung Taylor construction site or our Austin manufacturing facility.
