Galaxy Note8: How do I manage the Messages app on my Samsung Galaxy Note8 (SM-N950W)?

Messages


Connect and keep in touch with the Messages app. It’s never been easier to share photos, videos or just send a quick hello.

Note: Screens and settings available may vary depending on your Canadian wireless service provider and your software version.

Types of Messages


The Samsung Messages app provides the following message types:

Types of Message


   • Text Messages (SMS): The Short Message Service (SMS) lets you send and receive text messages to and from other phones or email addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your service provider’s message service.

   • Multimedia Messages (MMS): The Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) lets you send and receive multimedia messages (such as picture, video, and audio messages) to and from other phones or email addresses. To use this feature, you may need to subscribe to your service provider’s multimedia message service.

Note: To use these features, you may need to subscribe to your service provider’s message service. Messaging icons are displayed at the top of the screen and indicate when messages are received.

Create and Send Messages


Staying in touch has never been easier. Follow our instructions to craft that perfect greeting:

1. From the Home screen, swipe up or down to access the Apps screen.

2. Touch Messages.

3. Touch the Compose icon.

4. Select the desired recipient(s) from CONTACTS, GROUPS, or RECENTS.

5. Touch COMPOSE.

6. Enter a message and then touch SEND.

Note: If you exit a message before you send it, the message is automatically saved as a draft.

View New Messages from the Notification Panel


Note: Make sure you never miss a text by checking your notifications.

1. To open the Notification Panel, swipe down from the top of the screen.

2. Touch the New message notification.

1. From the Home screen, swipe up or down to access the Apps screen.

2. Touch Messages.

3. Touch the new message to view it.

4. To play a multimedia message attachment (audio or video), touch Play.

Delete Messages


Note: Prevent old messages from taking up too much space on your phone. It’s a cinch to delete and clear up space for new messages.

1. From the Home screen, swipe up or down to access the Apps screen.

2. Touch Messages.

3. Touch the CONVERSATIONS tab.

4. Touch and hold the message you want to delete.

5. Touch DELETE.

6. To confirm the deletion, touch DELETE.

Messages Settings


Note: Your mailbox called: it’s feeling neglected. Make it feel at home by customizing font size, backgrounds, callback number and more using mailbox settings.

1. From the Home screen, swipe up or down to access the Apps screen.

2. Touch Messages.

3. Touch the More Options icon.

4. Touch Settings.

5. Adjust the following to the desired settings:
