Samsung Support: Protect your privacy during repairs with Maintenance mode Samsung Support: Protect your privacy during repairs with Maintenance mode

Maintenance mode protects your privacy while someone else is using your phone, such as when you are sending it for repairs. This new privacy feature blocks access to your data for peace of mind while it is out of sight. In Maintenance mode, your personal data, including pictures, messages, and accounts, cannot be accessed, and only preinstalled apps are available. You will need to unlock your phone to turn off Maintenance mode.

While in Maintenance mode, only the default apps will be active. While any apps downloaded in Maintenance mode will be accessible, they will be automatically deleted when Maintenance mode is deactivated.

Please note:

  • Galaxy Maintenance mode requires a lock screen pin or password before activation. If this is not activated, you will be prompted to setup a lock screen pin or password before being able to activate galaxy maintenance mode. You will also need the pin or password to unlock your device to deactivate Galaxy maintenance mode security.
  • Maintenance mode will be supported on Galaxy devices running Android 13 or higher and availability will vary according to the model.

How to back up your data on Samsung Cloud before entering Maintenance Mode

You can use the option Back up to Samsung Cloud (called Temporary cloud backup from One UI 5.1.1) to create a temporary backup of your data while your phone is in Maintenance Mode.

This will ensure that your data is safe even if your device has to be reset or if the mainboard requires replacing.

To back up your data before entering Maintenance Mode, go to:

Settings > Battery and device care > Maintenance mode > Back up your data > Back up to Samsung Cloud

Files backed up to Samsung Cloud are kept for 30 days from the date the backup is created. You can check the status of the temporary backup and the storage period in the Samsung Cloud app.

When the 30-day period expires, temporary backup files will be deleted. A notification will be sent one week before deletion. It is not possible to extend the storage period.

There is no limit to how much data can be backed up, but the maximum individual file size is 100GB.

You need a Samsung account and a Wi-Fi connection to back up your data on Samsung Cloud.
