How to use 3D on the Odyssey 3D gaming monitor

The new Odyssey 3D (G90XF) Gaming Monitor puts your gaming experience in 3D without dedicated glasses. It uses eye-tracking technology and view mapping algorithms to create incredible 3D effects on its 4K UHD resolution with 27-inch flat screen. It also combines 1ms (GtG) response times, a high 165 Hz refresh rate, and 1000:1 contrast ratio to provide a stunning gaming experience.

Please note: 3D mode is not compatible with all games. Additional games will be supported with upcoming updates.

Please note:

  • Some viewers may experience discomfort while watching 3D content. This could include dizziness, nausea or headaches. If you experience and of these while using the monitor, stop watching 3D content and take a break.
  • Watching 3D content for long periods can cause eye fatigue. If this happens, stop watching 3D content and take a break.

Please note:

  • If you are using multiple monitors, make sure to set the Odyssey 3D as your primary monitor.
  • Set the 3D input port using the input selection menu on the monitor.
1 Connect the monitor to your computer using a USB cable. Use the cable that came with the monitor
2 Install Odyssey 3D Hub. This can be downloaded from Samsung.com or the Microsoft Store

To install Odyssey 3D Hub, go to the Samsung support site. Search for the model name of your monitor (G90XF). Download and install Odyssey 3D Hub. Follow the on-screen instructions.

3 Reboot your computer. If you do not reboot, the software may not work correctly

Once you have installed the Odyssey 3D Gaming monitor, to view content at the highest refresh rate, you will need to change the related settings in the OSD menu. Change the DisplayPort Ver. value to 1.4 and Input Port Ver. value to 2.0↑.

Launching Odyssey 3D Hub

Please note: before starting, check that the stereo camera is enabled by opening Device Manager in Windows. If you have security software on your PC, it may block the camera. 

1 Click the Odyssey 3D Hub icon on your desktop
2 A red light will turn on at the top of the screen when the camera turns on
3 Set HDR to Off in Windows

Playing a game

1 In, Odyssey 3D Hub click on a game to go to the Steam site
2 Log into the Steam site and install the game you want to play
3 When the game has been installed, select the installed path of the game from Odyssey 3D Hub. You can now start playing the game

Please note: if the game is already installed, it will start automatically when selected.

Please note: this function is only supported on NVIDIA graphics cards.

1 Open Odyssey 3D Hub and run an app that supports full-screen mode from the computer’s desktop
2 Run the app in full-screen mode
3 In the bottom right of the screen, you will see a pop up asking “Would you like to convert the current video to 3D. Select the type of video playing.” Select the kind of video you are viewing
4 The video will be converted to 3D

Why is 3D mode turning off while I use it?

3D mode may turn off in the following cases:

  • You are using the monitor in any resolution other than UHD. 3D mode only works in UHD.
  • Adaptive-Sync / FreeSync (AMD graphics card) has been turned off. In this case, you will need to restart the 3D game or video.
  • The DisplayPort version has been changed (1.1 ↔ 1.4). In this case, you will need to restart the 3D game or video.

General precautions for viewing 3D content

  • Do not cover your face, as the camera needs to recognise it to create 3D effects.
  • Centre your face in the camera and make sure the camera is pointing at your face.
  • Make sure the screen resolution is set to UHD (3,840 x 2,160).
  • 3D can only be experienced by one person at a time.
  • Avoid making big or sudden movements with your head.
  • The recommended viewing distance for 3D content is 55 to 95cm away from the screen.
  • The optimal viewing angle for watching 3D videos is 25 degrees to the left and right of the front of the screen.
