How do I clean my Samsung oven
Keeping your Samsung oven clean helps maintain its performance and makes cooking more enjoyable. Depending on your model, you can use built-in cleaning features such as Pyrolytic / Self Clean, Steam Clean or Catalytic Cleaning, alongside regular manual cleaning. Find out which cleaning method is right for your oven and how to use it safely.
Before cleaning your Samsung oven:
- Switch it off and allow it to cool completely before manual cleaning.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners, hard brushes, scouring pads, steel wool, knives or other abrasive materials.
- Cleaning functions, controls, durations and removable parts vary by model.
- Check your user manual before removing the oven door, door glass or side runners.
- Use built-in cleaning features alongside regular manual cleaning.
- Remove large food deposits, excess grease and spills before starting a cleaning cycle.
- After a cleaning cycle, wipe away any remaining ash, dirt or loosened residue.
- Areas not covered by the selected cleaning feature will still need to be cleaned manually.
- Choosing a cleaning function: The best option depends on how heavily your oven is soiled and which cleaning features are available on your model.
Pyrolytic / Self Clean
Use Pyrolytic / Self Clean to remove heavy grease and baked-on food. The oven heats to a very high temperature, turning grease and food residue into ash, which you can wipe away once the oven has cooled.
Before you start:
- Make sure the oven is cool.
- Remove cookware, oven probes and other items.
- Remove large pieces of food and wipe away excess grease or spills.
- Remove racks, side runners and accessories if required by your model.
- Do not use commercial oven cleaner or oven liners.
Please note: Large food pieces can cause excessive smoke or, in some cases, flames during the cleaning cycle. Accessory requirements vary by model, so always check your user manual before starting.
Start the cleaning cycle
During cleaning
- Keep children away from the oven.
- Do not touch the oven, as surfaces can become very hot.
- Some smoke or odour is normal, so keep the kitchen well ventilated.
- You may hear sounds as the oven heats and cools.
After cleaning
- Wait for the cycle to finish and the oven to cool completely.
- The door will remain locked until it reaches a safe temperature.
- Once unlocked, carefully open the door.
- Wipe away the remaining ash with a soft or damp cloth.
- Reinstall any racks, side runners or accessories you removed.
Please note: Pyrolytic / Self Clean reduces the need for scrubbing, but some manual cleaning is still required.
Steam Clean
Steam Clean uses water and heat to loosen light grease, splashes and food residue, making them easier to wipe away. It is designed for light soiling rather than heavy or baked-on grease.
Before you start
- Make sure the oven has cooled.
- Remove racks and accessories if required by your model.
- Remove large pieces of food.
- Wipe away heavy or stubborn grease manually.
Please note: For heavily soiled ovens, such as after roasting or grilling, remove stubborn residue manually before using Steam Clean. Check your user manual for model-specific instructions.
Start Steam Clean
Important safety information
- Do not open the door during the cycle. Hot steam and water can cause burns.
- If the oven is too hot, Steam Clean may not start. Allow it to cool and try again.
- Pour water carefully to prevent it from overflowing.
- Heavy or stubborn grease must be removed manually.
- Always wipe away loosened residue after the cycle.
- Leaving the door slightly open afterwards can help the oven dry.
Please note: Steam Clean makes cleaning easier, but it does not replace manual cleaning.
Catalytic Cleaning
Applicable Samsung ovens have catalytic liners that absorb grease and oil splashes during cooking. When the oven reaches around 200°C or above, the collected residue is broken down.
Please note: Catalytic Cleaning only works on the catalytic surfaces. Other parts of the oven still need to be cleaned manually.
Using Catalytic Cleaning
Please note:
- The exact procedure can vary by model. Check your user manual to confirm whether your oven has catalytic liners and for the correct instructions.
- The oven base, door, glass, racks, accessories and other non-catalytic surfaces still need to be cleaned manually when required.
Manually cleaning the oven
Regular manual cleaning is recommended alongside your oven's built-in cleaning features. Pyrolytic / Self Clean, Steam Clean and Catalytic Cleaning can make cleaning easier, but they do not clean every part of the oven.
You may need to clean manually:
- As part of regular oven maintenance.
- Before a cleaning cycle to remove excess grease, spills or large food deposits.
- After a cleaning cycle to remove remaining ash or loosened residue.
- For areas not covered by the selected cleaning feature.
- For racks, accessories, the door, glass and exterior.
Cleaning products and materials
For general cleaning, use:
- A clean, soft cloth.
- Mild cleaning detergent or warm soapy water.
- A suitable oven cleaner for enamelled surfaces or stubborn residue, where appropriate.
Always remove any remaining cleaning product and dry the surface afterwards.
Do not use:
- Abrasive cleaning products.
- Hard brushes or scouring pads.
- Steel wool.
- Knives or other abrasive materials.
These can scratch or damage the oven. Do not scrub or manually clean the door seal, as this may damage it.
Always check that a cleaning product is suitable for the surface before using it.
Cleaning the oven interior
After using a built-in cleaning feature, check the oven and wipe away any remaining residue.
Cleaning racks and accessories
Clean racks and accessories regularly. They may need to be removed before using some cleaning features.
For stubborn residue, soak accessories in warm soapy water for around 30 minutes before cleaning.
If racks no longer slide smoothly, lightly rub a small amount of cooking oil onto the side rail guides using wax paper or a cloth.
Cleaning the oven exterior
Built-in cleaning features only clean applicable areas inside the oven. The exterior should be cleaned manually.
For the door, handle and display:
- Switch off the oven and allow it to cool.
- Use a soft cloth with mild detergent or warm soapy water.
- Wipe away fingerprints, grease and food residue.
- Dry with a clean, soft cloth.
Clean the handle regularly, as grease and dirt can collect where hot air escapes.
For stainless steel surfaces, use an approved stainless steel cleaner or white vinegar on a cloth. Wipe in the direction of the grain, then dry.
Do not use stainless steel cleaner on the outer glass. Use glass cleaner or soapy water instead. Avoid getting excessive moisture around the door seal or between the glass panels.
Cleaning the oven door and glass
Allow the oven and door to cool before cleaning. Wipe the door and glass with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Remove any remaining cleaner and dry thoroughly.
Cleaning between the door glass
Grease, food residue or moisture can sometimes collect between the glass panels. The cleaning method varies by model.
Some ovens allow you to clean through an opening, while others require the door or glass panels to be removed.
Always check your user manual before removing the oven door or glass.
If your model allows access through an opening:
Removing the oven door or glass
Some models require the door or individual glass panels to be removed for thorough cleaning. The removal process varies by model and may involve hinges, screws, retaining covers or individual glass panels.
If you remove the glass:
- Clean it with soapy water and a soft cloth.
- Reinstall all glass panels, clips and covers in the correct order and orientation.
- Make sure everything is securely fitted before using the oven.
Incorrect installation can allow heat to escape. If you're unsure how to remove or reinstall the door or glass, check your user manual or contact Samsung Support.
Cleaning the side runners
Some Samsung ovens have removable side runners. The removal method varies by model, so check your user manual first.
For models with the illustrated design:
Additional cleaning and maintenance
Some Samsung ovens with steam-assisted cooking and a water reservoir have Descale and Drain functions. These help maintain the steam system and do not clean grease or food residue from the oven.
Use them alongside the appropriate oven cleaning feature and regular manual cleaning.
Descale
Descale removes mineral deposits from the steam generator, helping maintain the steam system. Your oven may notify you when descaling is required.
To descale:
Follow the descaling product manufacturer's instructions for the correct amount and water-to-descaler ratio.
Important:
- Do not cancel the Descale cycle. If cancelled, it may need to be restarted before steam-assisted modes can be used again.
- The reservoir and water may be hot. Wear oven gloves when handling it.
- Keep children away from the oven during the process.
Please note: Descale maintains the steam system but does not replace oven cleaning.
Drain
Drain removes remaining water from the steam system after steam-assisted cooking. It can also be used before leaving the steam system unused for an extended period.
To drain:
Important:
- Do not remove the reservoir while draining is in progress.
- The reservoir and drained water may be hot. Wear oven gloves when handling them.
- Draining may take some time while the water cools to a safe temperature.
Please note: Drain maintains the steam system but does not replace cleaning the oven cavity.
