How to fix picture related problem on Samsung Television?

Samsung has released a lot of LCD TVs, and the best place to start troubleshooting picture problems is with the user manual for your specific model. Consider the following as a general guide to troubleshooting Samsung LCD TVs for picture issues.

Only vertical line

Unit has lines from left to right on TV screen.

  • Confirm if line on screen is visible on Picture test   
  • (Menu > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test).

Only horizontal line

Unit has lines from top to lower side of TV screen.

  • Confirm if line on screen is visible on Picture test 
  • (Menu > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test). 

S/AE1

No picture / No raster

Screen has no display of any image.

Step 1: Unplug / re-plug the unit to an AC outlet and turn on the unit.

Step 2: If it still no picture, Unplug the other devices connected to the TV.

S/AB2

Intermittent display

Image display intermittently.

Step 1: Make sure that unit is properly plug to an AC outlet.

Step 2: Unplug the other devices connected to the TV.

S/AB5

Display dim

Image on screen has poor brightness.

Step 1: Unplug other devices connected to TV.

Step 2: Confirm if dim picture is visible on Picture test

(Menu > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test).

Duplicated picture / ghost

Double image on screen.

Step 1: Unplug other devices connected to TV.

Step 2: Confirm if the problem visible on Picture test

(Menu > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test).

Intermittent picture

Image display on screen intermittently.

Step 1: Make sure that unit is properly plug to an AC outlet.

Step 2: Unplug the other devices connected to the TV.

LCD Crack

Crack / broken TV screen.

  • Book for service.

Flickering

Image on screen is flickering.

Step 1: Confirm if there are other devices with motor plug in same power line.

Step 2: If yes, turn it off and see if problem is still visible.

Step 3:Unplug the other devices connected to the TV.

Dust / dirt on display

Screen has dirt /dust on screen.

Step 1: Confirm if dirt or dust on display is inside of the screen or not.

Step 2: If its on the outside, guide customer to wipe TV screen with clean cloth.

Snowy picture

Image on screen is snowy.

Step 1: Guide customer with picture test

(Menu > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test).

Step 2: If picture test is fine, check other source of signal.

Weak color

Image on screen has low color volume.

Step 1: Guide customer with picture test

(Menu > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test).

Step 2: If picture test is fine, check other source of signal or do factory reset via RM.

Intermittent color

Color on image is intermittently showing.

Step 1: Guide customer with picture test

(Menu > Support > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test).

  • Check with the other video source. If not, unit does not have problem.

  • If yes, guide customer in picture test.

Picture too bright

Too much brightness on TV screen.

  • Do picture reset (Menu > Picture > Expert setting > Picture reset) and try other source of signal.

Picture too dark

Too much dark image on TV screen.

  • Do picture reset (Menu > Picture > Expert setting > Picture reset) and try other source of signal. 

S/CP1

TFT-LCD Dead Pixel

TV screen with dead pixel problem.

  • Advise customer to watch in normal viewing distance (base on screen size) and confirm if dead pixel is noticeable. If not visible, unit has no problem. 

S/AEU

White balance problem

Color and luminance are not calibrated.

  • Step 1: Do picture reset (Menu > Picture > Expert setting > Picture reset) and try other source of signal.
  • Step 2: Do factory reset.

S/AJ4

Discoloration

Colors are not shown correctly on TV screen.

Step 1: Do picture reset (Menu > Picture > Expert setting > Picture reset) and try other source of signal.

Step 2: Do factory reset.

S/AF4

Picture partially dark

Image on TV screen is partially dark.

Step 1: Do picture reset (Menu > Picture > Expert setting > Picture reset) and try other source of signal.

Step 2: Do factory reset.

Display only one color

Only one color shown on TV screen.

Step 1: Do picture reset (Menu > Picture > Expert setting > Picture reset) and try other source of signal.

Bright pixel

Bright pixel is visible on TV screen.

  • Advise customer to watch in normal viewing distance (base on screen size) and confirm if dead pixel is noticeable. If not noticeable, unit has no problem.

burnt / spot

Burn or spot visible on TV screen.

  • Confirm if defect is visible on all source of signal. If not, unit does not have a problem. 

S/AE6

Incorrect V-size

Incorrect vertical size problem.

Step 1: Confirm if defect is visible on all source of signal. If not, unit does not have a problem.

Step 2: If visible, do factory reset.

S/AEB

No color

Gray screen or B&W image only.

Step 1: Do picture reset (Menu > Picture > Expert setting > Picture reset) and try other source of signal.

Step 2: Do factory reset.

S/AEV

Picture freezing

Image on screen hangs or freezing.

Step 1: Remove all other device connected with TV and try to power on unit .

Step 2: Check if TV firmware is already updated. If not, update it to latest version.

Step 3: Do factory reset.

Incorrect H-size

Incorrect Horizontal size problem.

Step 1: Confirm if defect is visible on all source of signal. If not, unit does not have a problem.

Step 2: If visible, do factory reset.

Noise bars

Image with noise bar on TV screen.

Step 1: Confirm if there are other devices with motor plug in same power line.

Step 2: If yes , turn it off and see if problem is still visible.
