Washing Machine Vibrating and Noisy
Excessive noise or vibration from a washing machine is usually caused by installation issues, unbalanced loads, or foreign objects. Following the checks below can help identify the cause and ensure your washing machine operates smoothly and quietly.
- Check that the washing machine is placed on a level surface
An uneven surface can cause excessive noise or vibration. Make sure the machine is installed on a solid, flat floor and adjust the feet if needed.
- Remove the shipping bolts
New washing machines come with shipping bolts to secure the drum during transport. These must be removed before using the machine.
- Balance the laundry load
Washing a single heavy item can cause vibration and noise. Distribute the load evenly inside the drum.
- Avoid overloading the machine
Do not exceed the maximum capacity. You can find the load limit on the control panel of the washing machine.
- Inspect the door seal
Check if the rubber seal around the drum is damaged or rubbing against the drum, as this can cause unusual noise.
- Ensure proper spacing around the machine
Make sure the washing machine is not touching walls or other objects to prevent vibration noise.
- Remove metal objects from clothing
Items such as coins can cause clanging sounds. Clothes with zippers or buttons may also create noise, so turning them inside out can help.
- Wash bulky or waterproof items correctly
Items like heavy or waterproof fabrics may cause thumping sounds if washed alone. Add a small item, such as a towel, to balance the load.
