How to set up and use the Interpreter app on Galaxy devices

You can use the Interpreter app on Galaxy devices to translate in-person conversations in real time. It allows two people speaking different languages to communicate easily using voice and on-screen text translations.

How to use the Interpreter app

The app will translate speech in real time with audio and text.

Note: The bottom screen shows your language, and the top screen shows the other person’s translation.

  • Supported languages (Regions)
    Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional (Hong Kong, Taiwan), Dutch, English (Australia, India, United Kingdom, United States), French (Canada, France), German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil, Portugal), Romanian, Russian (Russian Federation), Spanish (Mexico, Spain, United States), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese.

Step 1. Open the Quick settings panel > Select Interpreter.

Step 2. Select your language (bottom microphone) and the other speaker’s language (top microphone).

Step 3. Tap Add languages if needed and allow microphone access if prompted.

Recent translation history

Step 1. Open the Interpreter app.
Tap the More options (three dots) > Recents.

Step 2. Scroll to find a translation.
Tap Copy to copy text or Play to hear the translation.

Note: Translation history is deleted after 24 hours.

Step 1. Open the Interpreter app > Tap the More options (three dots) > Recents.

Step 2. Tap More options (three dots) > Settings.
Select and adjust:
Language packs
Voice styles
Tap to talk

Supported languages

  • Arabic, Indonesian, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Dutch
  • English (AU, IN, UK, US), French (CA, FR), German, Hindi
  • Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (BR, PT)
  • Romanian, Russian, Spanish (MX, ES, US), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese

Note: More languages may be added in future updates.

Notes

  • When Tap to talk is enabled, each speaker must tap their microphone before speaking.
  • When disabled, microphones switch automatically between speakers.
  • Feature availability and UI may vary depending on device, OS version, and region.
