I've had four 1TB T5s since they were first introduced. They see a lot of use and they remain just as fast and just as reliable as they were the day(s) that I received them. I'm sad to see that the price of these has shot up as much as it has, but I suppose that's to be expected these days. I'm about to purchase SSDs for my new LUMIX S5IIX and I'll buy more of these before I consider the T7s (which for some reason are slower on my Intel based Mac).

Then i picked this drive up for the games to be installed on 500Gb with at the time very good r/w speeds for a budget price was well worth it. I chose Samsung because i have a 4k Samsung monitor and was happy with that plus their active innovation in the tech field!

i am a videographer and was very excited about the features of this product. unfortunately after first recording footage to my ssd, an error indicated it "failed to check for free space or failed to check for volume." i contacted customer services and a wonderful rep helped me wipe the drive to fix it. however every time i have recorded footage to the drive since the error has continued and i have lost upwards of 2 hours of footage. i don't know if it is my drive specifically that is faulty, but i am extremely disappointed as this product would have been perfect for my rig.

This is external driver is way better than I could imagine. It is very light and fast. I got the 1TB one to save me some space on my surface laptop and I am very happy with that. My old driver was exteremely slow and this one is beyond faster.

I bought this a few months ago because I need a high-performance SSD that was nice and compact. As someone that spends a lot of time editing photos and video, I'm very please with how fast it transfers data and the small size of it. I highly recommend it!

I bought this product today with a reassurance from the vendor that there was an option to format it for dual, interchangeable use being Mac and Windows computers. I've plugged it in and three options are provided: Mac, Windows and Android. I am unsure and reluctant to make a connection until I'm certain that I won't be locked into one system and locked out of others! Samsung Phone Tech support have been hopeless thus far, as they tell me they have "limited resources" to answer my (simple) question!!

I bought this to do a complete backup of my late 2016 MacBook Pro before buying my current 16” MacBook Pro. It worked well for that backup. Now I’m using it in addition to my Synology NAS to do full Time Machine backups. My reasoning is only that then in case of a mandatory disaster evacuation, I have a means of quickly grabbing a very portable backup to go. It is working very well in this tandem Time Machine setup.

Love the design and capacity. I'm using USB 3.0, so my speeds max out at 422 mb/s. I'm currently running an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), and had serious problems installing the Samsung software that came with the drive. Mac OS security blocks 2 steps of the installation, but you can supposedly allow them from System Preferences. The only problem is that I could allow one of two of the processes, and there's no way to fix it. I've run the uninstaller script that Samsung provides even after a clean reinstall, I get the following error from the Samsung Portable SSD app: No Samsung Portable SSD is connected. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling (with full restarts in between), and still get the same error. I didn't set up their security features, so I'm still able to use the disk. The software, however, is borked. If I'm not using the security features, I'm not sure why I even need the app.

Initially the device was connected with Mac and copied 200GB of files. When I was trying to use Portable SSD software to connect with SSD drive it was not recognizing. Suddenly the Samsung SSD 2T drive stopped working and now I'm not able to retrive files from the drive. When I connect the devie to Mac it's showing 44MB and the drive format is also corrupted.

I bought one yesterday, after a long wait. I wanted to wait for 4TB, or ideally 16TB; but found justification for a 500GB. I love the blue color, and maybe like WD, Samsung can look at various colors soon. It's a great performing drive, works on both my PCs, and a Raspberry Pi (once you install exFAT support). It would be nice to have Raspbian/Debian software, and the price is good now that time has passed. I will make one comment to the person who compared the 2TB drive to 8 x 250 GB drives. It wasn't so long ago that larger drives had a premium, more importantly after years of experience I've found managing multiple drives is far more hassle than a premium price.

I love this unit. I recently decided to put all my music on one drive. This drive is fast. It took me just under an hour to transfer 12700+ songs from two drives into the Samsung. The speed is impressive even though I don't have the latest generation USB, just a 3.0. I already had a soft cushion case for it which I bought somewhere in my travels and the hard drive fits like a glove.

I am using this external SSD in conjunction with a Samsung internal SSD in my desktop PC. The data transfer speeds are AMAZING. Using this 1 TB drive with the USB 3.1/Gen 2 cable is delivering the indicated speeds. I have also upgraded my laptop to a Samsung SSD and they are ALL providing outrageously FAST data speeds. I have been using this drive for a few monthes now and I can say I like it a lot. My only real complaint is you have to have the Samsung software for the SSD installed on your device to use it. This has proved problematic when I try to use it on a new device. It won't let you access the drive to download the software, I had to get online and download it from the Samsung Support website. The spped of this thing is amazing, and once you experience this little ssd, it's hard to use a HDD. the size is really small, which makes it easy to take everywhere.

I decided to purchase SSD T5 and use it as an external drive for a DUI-music server. The SSD T5 is connected via USB 3.0 to an Ockel mini-computer. The SSD T5 stores my 170 GB of FLAC music files that make up the music server running J River Media Center version 23. The Ockel mini-computer has an NDMI output port so I can display the Media Center 23 user interface on my Samsung TV. Also, since my Samsung is not a smart TV, the Ockel's USB 3.0 port 9which feeds a USB 3.0 hub) also allows for connecting to the Internet -- adding the ability of accessing the Internet and thus allowing for downloading documents to the SSD T5 with plenty of free space available after loading 170 GB of music files. So essentially, I have added the capability of tuning my non-smart Samsung TV into a smart TV. I highly recommend the SSD T5 for any and all applications needing an efficient storage drive.

I can do file backups and disc image backups in such little time that it encourages frequent use, which is wise. To facilitate my backups I use the free AOMEI backup tool downloaded online. I believe my very fast backups are the result of two (2) SSD's working together. If you have a typical mechanical hard drive in your computer then you probably can still expect good performance but perhaps not as fast. Also, this Samsung T5 is very small and lightweight.

The only reason I give this less than a 5 star rating is that the plug is a little loose so when bumped the computer thinks the disk was disconnected without closing out. Sometimes this corrupts the storage medium so the unit needs to be re-formatted. Otherwise it's perfect.

It is super fast so you always want to use it for whatever it may be you want to store on it. I keep movies and music on mine for when i am on the go. Just plug it straight in to my note 9 and every thing is the at my finger tips. I highly recommend one of these portable ssd's if you are always on the go and have a lot of files.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This drive comes with a hardware-based secure log-in system, and when you plug it in you'll see a choice of emulator/"activator" interfaces for login to a PC or Mac or device. I ordinarily use it with a Macbook or desktop Mac, but I've guest-visited PC's also, and what happens is: you plug it in and will see the initial choice of platform log-in apps. Choose your OS, click, and enter your password - whatever password you set up initially from your own computer/device, as once you do that your password is hard-wired into the drive, and you can access it from anywhere - if you have the password. Setting up hardware-based encryption/security is optional, by the way. But simple, and it works smoothly across my computers. The same routine brings up the system-specific log-in screen, enter the password, you're in. Password required every time it's re-installed — great basic mobile security. For Mac, there's a known strangeness, despite full compatibility. When first plugging it in or upon ejecting it, you may see an upper-right-hand corner pop-up saying disk was improperly ejected (last time). Maybe on Windows "safely eject" avoids that, but on Mac, you'll likely see it. Not to worry, as long as you're not transferring data while unplugging. (In Mac I "eject" and it looks normal but still will get a pop-up nag about safely ejecting.) What else can I say? I know there are a few reputable makers of 250-500GB SSD portable drives worthy of consideration. (As a scientist, believe me, I read all the reviews and looked at "data," but as a typical computer user I chose based on things like the form factor, price, and experience). So this is my 3rd Samsung T (2 "3"s and one T-5 now). I've had no problem with any of them (thus my collection has expanded). They are fast, reliable, and practical between the various interfaces, portable security protection, and choice of cable/interface. I'm a fan. Five people found this helpful

I bought this drive about 6 weeks ago. Everything was great running it as my system backup under Mac 10.11.16, El Capitan. Then one day, it just stopped mounting and I would get a weird message from the operating system: Disk Not Ejected Properly. I had not ejected it. Apple has been working with me on this for 3 weeks. 2nd level tech. Engineers involved. The odd thing is: it works fine on my iMac running High Sierra. And no it's not my usb ports. They work fine with all my other drives. And no, I don't want to "upgrade" my operating system. I have msw and fcp 7 still running on this MacBook Pro.

I bought this to use as external storage for my PS4. The speed and ease of use is incredible. The only thing I've noticed is that since I installed it, there has been erratic behavior from the PS4 controllers. After investigating, I have found that USB 3.0 and later connections can provide electromagnetic interference on 2.4 GHz bands and therefore may be the problem I've been having. So if you're going to use this drive as PS4 external storage, make sure you find a good shielded cable or one that is long enough to place the drive away from the console and the contoller. Other than that little quirk, this drive is purely amazing.

I bought this to replace an older 256 G drive that could not hold any more photos. It works very well, but in some situations it will not be recognized by scanners. This is a function of the scanner design and the 3.1 USB connection. If you are saving research material, take along a USB that you know works, then transfer those files to the T5 later.

I have partioned out the drive so some partions work with my mac for TimeMachine and the other works as a normal drive for mac and PC for transferring files. AND THE SPEED!!! I transferred 44.45GB of movies onto my computer in 1 minute and 20 seconds! And it wrote them onto the drive in 1 minute and 38 seconds.

I use two of these drives to bring new life to my iMac. Using the 3.1 USB interface, I use these devices in a RAID 0 configuration to get 730 MB/s Writes and 620 MB/s reads. One device alone will do 420 MB/s reads and writes. I have my OS on it.

The good: Very small and travel friendly allowing me to lower the weight of my luggage The Bad: Expensive and still not as fast as Thunderbolt. The Ugly: Will not connect to my brand new smart TV LG C7 55" 4K UHD HDR OLED webOS 3.5 Smart TV (OLED55C7P). Unlike all other drives i have my video footage will not play from this drive even though i have disabled password protection. Which defeats one of the main purpose of getting both this drive and this TV so i could view my MP4 4k video files direct from this travel size drive. I have submitted a ticket to see if there is a work-around.

Large blueprints have always been a pain in my industry - not anymore! With 2TB of storage, I am not even worried this will run out of space and it's durable too - which is what I need. Now, if they can come up with a build-in external keychain loop so I can hook it to my briefcase and not lose it it would be PERFECT!!
