HONG KONG (October 9, 2024) - Samsung Electronics HK. Co. Ltd, the world's leading technology company, is launching the annual Solve for Tomorrow education technology competition, marking the beginning of the next decade-long journey to nurture local talent since its debut in Hong Kong in 2013. As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes increasingly prevalent, the nature of work and job roles is evolving. This year, Samsung's theme, "Pathways of Tomorrow: Trailblazing New Paths for the Next Generation", encourages the new generation to actively explore future pathways by combining creativity with new technologies like AI, bringing breakthroughs and positive impacts to various industries in Hong Kong, and working together with Samsung to create a brighter future.

Encouraging Students to Explore Future Pathways Through Technology

Unlike previous years focused on social issues, this year Samsung has chosen a theme centered on careers and industries. Students are encouraged to reflect on their future paths while considering how to effectively leverage emerging technologies like AI to bring transformative changes to current industries and even create entirely new professions, paving the way for a smarter future in Hong Kong.

 

In addition to thematic innovations, Solve for Tomorrow 2024 introduces several exciting new elements:

• Apart from the primary and secondary school categories, we are once again inviting tertiary students to participate.
• The competition format is divided into three stages:
  • In the first stage, participants need only submit a concept proposal.
  • Approximately the top 30% of concepts will be shortlisted to the second stage, where specialized workshops including Design Thinking, AI, and Project Clinic guidance will help finalists turn their concepts into reality.
  • After submitting their prototypes, the top three finalists from each category will enter the final stage, receiving mentorship from different industry experts and Samsung mentors to enhance their creative entries and presentation skills. Finalists will present their entries to judges, with public voting contributing to the final scores, culminating in an awards ceremony expected in April 2025.
• Enhanced and Unique Prizes:
  • In addition to generous cash and product awards, this year the champions of the tertiary category will receive internship opportunities at Samsung. The secondary category's first and second place winners will also gain valuable working experience at Samsung, in alignment with the Education Bureau's "School-Business Partnership Program". These opportunities extend beyond typical prizes.
• Evaluation Criteria: This year’s judging will include design concepts and creativity, feasibility and technological innovation, presentation skills, sustainability and business models. A new focus on use of AI encourages participants to apply AI technology to provide viable solutions for various industries, potentially creating new sectors. Teams participating in all activities (including the briefing session, Design Thinking workshop, AI workshop, and Project Clinic) will earn an additional 5 bonus points that will be added to their preliminary scores.

 

Reshaping Future Industries Through Creative Innovation While Competing for Exciting Prizes

Organized by Samsung and co-hosted by the Information Technology Education Leaders Association (AiTLE), with support from the Hong Kong SAR Government's Education Bureau "School-Business Partnership Program" and Hong Kong Education City, Solve for Tomorrow 2024 takes place from September 2024 to April 2025. We welcome tertiary, secondary and primary students from across Hong Kong to form teams, utilizing the latest technologies and STEM knowledge combined with boundless creativity to create a brighter future for Hong Kong.

 

This year's competition features categories for Tertiary, Secondary, and Primary students, with each category offering prizes for first, second, third, and merit winners, totaling 18 winning teams. The total prize value exceeds HKD320,000.
