No sound from rear speakers or subwoofer on the HW-Q90R

Currently, if you turn off a TV that has a HW-Q90R Soundbar connected to it, the soundbar will work when you turn the TV back on, but you may not get any sound from the wireless rear speakers or subwoofer. This can be fixed with a firmware update.

To perform a firmware update, you'll need to reconnect the speakers, update the soundbar and then update the subwoofer and rear speakers.

Please note: if you've already updated the speakers you will have to disconnect and reconnect the speakers before the update will apply

Reconnecting the speakers

1 Disconnect all power leads from the soundbar, subwoofer and rear speakers. Once you have done this, reconnect the power leads in the following order: Subwoofer – Rear Left – Rear Right – Soundbar
2 Pair the wireless rear speakers

If needed, you can follow the pairing instructions from the user manual

Updating the Soundbar

There are two ways to update your soundbar. You can either update via Wi-Fi or by downloading the update to a computer and transferring it to the soundbar with a USB stick.

Updating the soundbar over the network
1 Ensure that the soundbar is connected to your Wi-Fi network using the SmartThings app

Download the SmartThings app for Android and iOS

2 Open the SmartThings app on your device and choose the HW-Q90R Soundbar to access the control menu
3 Tap the 3 vertical dots in the top right corner of the screen, then tap Information
4 If the firmware version is HW-Q90RWWB-1007.9 go ahead and update the subwoofer and rear speakers

If the firmware is any version lower than HW-Q90RWWB-1007.9 then tap on ‘Firmware Update’

Allow the unit to update before moving on to the next step
Updating the soundbar via USB
1 Download the latest firmware to a computer via a Zip file
2 Unzip the folder and copy the SAT-HKA19WWC folder onto a USB stick

Please note: the SAT-HKA19WWC folder should not be placed within any other folder on the USB stick. The soundbar will not be able to read the files if they are within another folder on the USB drive

3 Turn the soundbar on and insert the USB drive into the Service port on the underside of the soundbar. The firmware update will start automatically
4 While updating, the display on the soundbar will cycle though UPDATE > BYE > ON two times
5 After two cycles, the soundbar will restart and the last used input will display for approximately 20 seconds before switching off

Updating the subwoofer & rear speakers

Once the soundbar has been updated you will need to update the firmware of the subwoofer and rear speakers.

Please note: if the soundbar has previously been updated at a different time, you will have to repeat the stage where you reconnected the speakers.

1 Turn the soundbar on and wait for three minutes
2 Press any key on the remote to make sure the display is lit
3 While the display is lit, press and hold the Down key for around 6 seconds until UPDATE appears on the display
4 The display will show UPDATE > BYE > ON while the update is taking place

The soundbar will restart with the last known input displayed for around 20 seconds before it switches off

The update is now complete
