C154 error code showing on a Samsung air conditioner.

Note: The design of the display panel and the alarm codes may differ based on the model.

Error codes requiring authorized service

When the air conditioner displays an alarm on the display panel and won't turn on, it means the room temperature sensor is shorted or defective. Most of these cases need to be handled by an authorized repair technician. Therefore, please get in touch with our Samsung customer care for further assistance.

Displayed codes
(“E” or “C” depending on model year)

Cause

C1 or 21 on loop

Defective room temperature sensor error

C1 or 22 on loop

Defective heat exchanger temperature sensor

C1 or 54 on loop

The Fan is not rotating

C1 or 63 on loop

Incorrect or deleted data in the EEPROM for the main control board

Notes:

  • The codes displayed will correspond with the air conditioner model. However, the first letter of the code may differ depending on the model.
  • Codes containing numbers will blink on the display panel.
  • If the indoor unit indicator blinks, write down the code and please get in touch with our Samsung customer care for further assistance.

Intermittent C154 error:

  • This error indicates that the indoor fan motor has entered protection mode.
  • This occurs when the input voltage exceeds the normal operating range.
  • If the voltage rises above approximately 290–310V, the overload voltage protection (OVP) is activated. The indoor motor then stops temporarily to prevent overheating or electrical damage.
  • This error usually appears in areas where the household voltage supply is unstable or frequently exceeds the recommended level.
  • Once the voltage stabilizes below 290V, the unit can operate normally again.

Continuous C154 error:

  • The C154 error reappears within 10 seconds of restarting the air conditioner.
  • This indicates a problem with internal components such as a defective fan motor or PBA (printed board assembly).
  • Continuous C154 means the fan motor has failed, and the unit cannot recover on its own.
  • A service inspection is required.

How to resolve the C154 error

Follow these steps to determine whether the error is temporary or requires service:

Step 1. Turn off the air conditioner.

Step 2. Wait a few seconds, then turn it on again.

Step 3. Observe whether the C154 error appears again within 10 seconds.

If the error does not return: The issue was caused by a temporary voltage surge.

If the error repeats immediately: The fan motor or printed board assembly (PBA) may be defective. In this case, contact Samsung Service for inspection and repair.

Preventive measures and tips

  • Ensure that your home’s electrical supply is stable. Installing a voltage stabilizer can help in regions prone to frequent power surges.
  • Restart the air conditioner as the first troubleshooting step before requesting service.
  • If the error appears often, even after a stable voltage is confirmed, schedule a service visit to rule out component failure.
Note:
  • The Intermittent C154 error is a protective mechanism, not an indication of permanent failure.
  • Continuous recurrence in a short period suggests possible hardware issues that require technical support.
  • If the error clears after restarting, in-home service is not necessary, as the product is functioning properly under varying voltage conditions.
