Samsung Phone: Optimise, Clean storage and Memory

Samsung Device Care (or Battery and device care) lets you boost your device performance as well as clear up some storage space on your device. It provides an overview of your battery, storage, RAM, and security. You can also automatically optimize your phone for faster, better performance.


Note: This feature was previously called Device maintenance.

Quick Optimization

The Quick Optimization feature improves your phone's performance by identifying apps that use excessive battery power. It also clears away unneeded items from memory, deletes unnecessary files, and closes apps running in the background.


To optimize your phone follow these directions: From Settings, swipe to and tap Battery and device care. Tap Optimize now, and then tap Done.

Optimize Battery and Use Power Saving Modes

Battery is your phone's lifeline. There are several ways you can change the battery settings to optimize your phone's battery life.

From Settings, swipe to and tap Battery and device care. Tap Battery, and then tap Power saving mode. Select from the following options:

  • Turn off Always on Display: Enable or disable the Always on Display feature.

  • Limit CPU speed to 70%: This puts a limit on your device's CPU speed.

  • Decrease brightness by 10%: You can save battery power by decreasing your device's brightness.

  • Limit apps and Home screen: This option will alter a few app and Home screen settings, such as limiting all background activity and disabling Edge panels.

Note: In order to turn these options on or off, Power saving mode must be disabled. Once you've made your desired adjustments, you can turn Power saving mode back on.

Clean Storage

  1. From Settings, swipe to and tap Battery and device care

  2. Tap Storage, and then tap on a category that has items you'd like to remove, such as Images.

  3. Touch and hold an item to select it, and then select the additional items you'd like to remove.

  4. Tap Delete when you've selected everything, and then tap Move to Trash.

Back up Pictures and Videos by using Google Photos


Google Photos supports free, unlimited storage for high-quality (great visual quality at reduced file size) and free 15GB to account storage for original(full resolution that counts against your quota) based on upload size for photos and videos. We recommend to backup and sync your photo, video contents usually by using this Google Photos.

1 On apps screen, select Google Photos. (Device screenshots may differ by your software version.)
2 Activate Back up & sync option. Please note you need to sign in Google Account to back up and sync.
3 After that select upload size for photos and videos through settings.
4 Select files to back up to your cloud storage and tap Archive.
5 If you finished to back up files, you can delete same files saved on your device to secure device storage through Delete from device. Any pictures or videos backed up already to cloud storage will be safe even the files from device are deleted.

Back up and restore data by using Samsung Cloud


You can manage the content that you want to store securely in Samsung Cloud and keep your personal information, app data, and settings safe on your device.  Please back up data like Music, Apps, Documents, Contacts etc and access it later.  (For this, you must register and sign in to your account to back up or restore data.)

1 On the Settings screen, tap Settings > Cloud and accounts (Device screenshots may differ by your software version.)
2 Tap Samsung Cloud
3 Tap Backup settings
4 Select data for which back up required and then Tap Backup Now
Clean Memory

Is your phone getting glitchy and slow? It's time you clean up your phone's memory to improve its performance.

From Settings, swipe to and tap Battery and device care. Tap Memory, and then tap Clean now to free up memory by stopping background apps.

If you'd like to keep certain apps running in the background, you can tap Excluded apps and add your preferred apps to the list so they do not get closed when you use this feature.
