AUCKLAND, New Zealand – September 2026 - Samsung New Zealand is expanding its annual free e-waste drive-through programme in 2026, bringing the initiative to Wellington for the first time, in addition to support communities across Auckland. The sustainability scheme aims to make electronic waste recycling easier and more accessible for New Zealanders, helping divert unwanted devices from landfill and encouraging more sustainable disposal practices.

 

Taking place across six community collection events throughout October (Takapuna, Papakura & Kingsland) and November (Lower Hutt, Albany & Pipitea) inviting households to recycle eligible electronic items free of charge, regardless of brand. The drive-through format allows participants to conveniently drop off unwanted electronics. As an added incentive, participants who drop off eligible e-waste will receive a $100 Samsung E-Voucher to use towards their next purchase.¹

The programme supports Samsung’s broader sustainability strategy, which spans the entire product lifecycle from design and innovation through to responsible end-of-life solutions. Through its continued partnership with Echo, New Zealand’s largest e-waste recycling company², Samsung is helping ensure collected electronic items are recovered and processed in a responsible manner.

 

The success of Samsung’s 2025 e-waste collection events highlighted the strong commitment from New Zealand communities to responsible recycling. In 2025, the programme collected more than 76,000 kg of e-waste, helping avoid approximately 21,996 kg of greenhouse gas emissions. More than 3000 vehicles visited the collection sites to recycle unwanted electronics.

 

As electronic waste continues to be one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams, Samsung New Zealand remains committed to supporting initiatives that encourage responsible recycling behaviours and help reduce environmental impact. By expanding the programme to Wellington, Samsung is providing more communities across New Zealand with convenient opportunities to recycle unwanted electronics.

 

Collected items will be processed responsibly to maximise material recovery wherever possible. Samsung welcomes members of the public to bring eligible electronic items from any manufacturer, making it easier for households to clear out unused devices while supporting a more circular economy.

 

Beyond end-of-life recycling initiatives, Samsung focuses on extending product lifecycles through thoughtful design and ongoing innovation. Innovations such as the SolarCell Remote help reduce the need for disposable batteries, while continued efforts to improve resource efficiency in product design and packaging further support the company's commitment to a more circular economy.
