What to do if the screen on your device is flickering

Last Update date : Jan 17. 2023

If the screen on your device is flickering, there are a few steps you can follow to find out whether the issue is software or hardware-related. Flickering is usually caused by a software issue which can be caused by glitches in apps or software bugs.

Before you try out below recommendations as to your solutions, be sure to check if your device's software and related apps are updated with latest version. Please check how to update your mobile device's software in following order.

Step 1. Go to Settings > Software update.

Step 2. Tap on Download and install.

Step 3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Here are several fixes you can try if your phone's screen is flickering.

1. Check your device for damage

Is the screen of your device smashed or cracked? If there is damage to your screen, this could be causing your screen to flicker.

You can visit the nearest Samsung Authorized Service Center to have your device inspected in person, or book a repair to have your screen fixed.

2. Restart your device

Restarting the device is often the quickest and easiest way to resolve software issues.

1 Hold down the Volume Down Key and the Power Button simultaneously for 7 seconds.
2 Your device will restart and display the Samsung logo.
3. Check in Safe Mode

Safe mode can be used to diagnose potential issues caused by some third-party applications.  Safe mode runs the device using only the core applications; therefore it can be used to determine if a third-party application is causing the problem.

Step 1. Press and hold the power button or button combination you use to turn off your device until the power off screen appears.

Step 2. Tap and hold the Power off icon until the option for Safe mode appears.

Step 3. Tap Safe mode.

  • If the issue is gone in Safe mode: One of your recently downloaded apps was likely the cause of the problem.
  • If the issue still exists: Downloaded apps may not be the cause of the problem. You may need to reset the phone or tablet to the factory setting.

To exit safe mode, restart your device

4. Manage your brightness

If your screen is still flickering, try adjusting your brightness settings.

1 Go to Settings, then tap Display
2 Tap the switch to deactivate Adaptive brightness.
3 If you have noticed the flickering with low brightness, slide the bar to increase the display brightness.

Note: If none of the solutions above fixes the issue, please contact your nearest Samsung Service Center.
