How do I stop my Samsung TV from flickering?

Last Update date : Mar 31. 2021

If your Samsung Smart TV is having trouble displaying images properly like flickering, there are a few things to check. See the below information on disabling the Ambient Light Detection.

Before going through the troubleshooting tips below, use Start Picture Test to determine if the problem is caused by the TV. The Start Picture Test displays a high definition picture you can examine for flaws or faults.

Eco Solutions

Eco Solution adjusts the Samsung TV's brightness level and prevents overheating to reduce overall power consumption. The backlight on some televisions can adjust automatically in accordance with the ambient light (surrounding background light level). This function can be activated by setting the Eco Solution, on the TV's menu.

Ambient Light Detection

The Ambient Light Detection is a function that will adjust the screen brightness depending on the light in the room. The screen will be brighter in a brightly lit room and darker in a dark room.

The method for turning this function on or off will differ depending on your model. You need to work out whether your model was made before 2016 or after 2017.

2016 models or older: System > Eco Solution > Eco Sensor > select On or Off.

2017 models or newer: Settings > General > Eco Solution > Ambient Light Detection > use the slider to turn on or off.

  • If the screen is too dark while you are watching TV in a dark environment, it may be due to the Ambient Light Detection function.
  • Do not block the sensor with any object. This can decrease picture brightness.
Minimum Backlight

The Backlight option changes the intensity of the lighting source for the TV. While the Ambient Light Detection is turned on, you can manually adjust the brightness of the TV screen.

1 Press the Home button on your Samsung remote contro then select Settings.
2 Scroll down to the General tab blocated on the left-hand side and then select Eco Solution.
3 Select Minimum Backlight and press enter on your remote control. A slider will appear and you will be able to adjust the backlight of your TV.
Energy Saving Mode

The Energy Saving Mode feature of some TVs will also affect the brightness of the TV screen based on how bright it is and how bright your room is so as to not use more brightness than necessary, and therefore save energy.

On newer Samsung TVs you'll be able to adjust the Energy Saving Mode and the Auto Power Off mode by following the path below:

1 Press the Home button on your Samsung remote contro then select Settings.
2 Scroll down to the General tab blocated on the left-hand side and then select Eco Solution.
3 Select Energy Saving Mode and press enter on your remote control to turn it off.
Note: On other models, Energy Saving mode is named as Power Saving mode.
