How to resolve slow or interrupted charging issues on your Samsung Galaxy Watch
The Galaxy Watch is designed to support various wireless charging environments. However, if you experience slow charging or the watch fails to charge, it could be due to the charging environment, an incompatible adaptor, or physical obstructions. Follow the guide below to optimise your charging performance.
Verifying your charging environment and accessories
External factors or unauthorised accessories can significantly affect charging speeds or prevent your watch from charging entirely.
Use official Samsung chargers
Always use a dedicated wireless charger. Third-party chargers may cause compatibility issues.
- Galaxy Watch6 and Watch5 series: Use the EP-OR900 wireless charger.
- Galaxy Watch9, Watch8, Watch8 Classic, Watch7, and Watch Ultra series: Use the EP-OL300 wireless charger.
- Galaxy Watch Ultra2: Use the EP-OL715 wireless charger.
Remove protective covers
Thick cases, metallic straps, or unofficial protective covers can block the wireless signal. Remove all accessories before charging.
Check your wall adaptor
Even when using the official Samsung wireless charger, charging speeds may be limited if the connected power source does not support fast charging. This includes:
- Older AFC or QC chargers
- Portable power banks
- USB ports that do not support USB Power Delivery (PD)
Understand Wireless Power Sharing limitations
Charging your watch via a phone's Wireless Power Sharing feature depends on the phone's battery levels and environment, which may result in slower speeds.
Note: Due to changes in the rear glass design that increase the distance to the internal wireless charging coil, the Galaxy Watch Ultra2, Galaxy Watch9, Galaxy Watch8, Galaxy Watch8 Classic, Galaxy Watch7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra do not support Wireless Power Sharing.
Check Power Sources for Charging
If the wireless charger is connected to a PC or a multi-port charging hub, insufficient input power may prevent the watch from charging properly or result in slower charging speeds.
Check for moisture and debris
Ensure both the back of the watch and the surface of the wireless charging pad are clean and dry. Sweat, dust, or liquids can interfere with the connection.
Note: The wireless charging pad is not waterproof; avoid contact with moisture or liquids.
Ensure configuration for charging
To achieve optimal charging speeds on compatible Galaxy Watch models, you must pair the official wireless charger with a compatible charging adaptor.
If the charging speed is still slow even when using the dedicated Galaxy Watch wireless charger and a genuine power adaptor, please visit a Samsung service centre with both the charger and adaptor.
