Factory reset and self-diagnosis on The Freestyle by Samsung

Last Update date : 2025-06-16

A minor change can have a big impact on how The Freestyle performs, whether it's related to internet connectivity, picture quality, or sound. If you notice any issues, the projector comes equipped with diagnostic tools to help you troubleshoot and find the root of the problem with less hassle.

If you’re looking to restore The Freestyle to its original settings, you can perform a factory reset. This will return all settings—except for network settings—back to their defaults.

To reset The Freestyle:

1 Press and hold the Home button on your remote until the quick settings menu appears.
2 Go to All Settings then select General & Privacy.
3 Choose Reset.
4 Enter your PIN (the default is 0000, if not changed before), then select Reset.
5 Confirm by selecting Ok. The projector will restart automatically.

If The Freestyle isn’t connecting to the internet, don’t worry. You can run a quick network test to help identify the issue. To do this, proceed with the following:

1 Press and hold the Home button on your remote until the quick settings menu appears.
2 Navigate to All Settings then press on Connection.
3 Tap Network, then tap Network Status. The projector will run a test and display the current status of your network connection.

Understanding the Network Status Test:

  • If you see an X between the projector and the router, the problem lies either with The Freestyle itself or your home network.

  • If the X appears between the router and the earth icon, the issue is likely with your internet service provider or external network.

Similar to Samsung TVs, The Freestyle's Smart Hub allows you to access apps, streaming services, and more. If you’re having trouble, running a Smart Hub Connection Test can help identify issues—especially if your internet isn’t working properly.

1 Press and hold the Home button on your remote until the quick settings menu appears.
2 Go to All Settings, then select Support.
3 Choose Device Care, followed by Self Diagnosis.
4 Select Smart Hub Connection Test.
5 If no issues are found once the test finishes, select Close.

Note: If any problems are detected, please review the on-screen instructions.

If issues continue:

1 You can reset the Smart Hub. Return to the Self Diagnosis menu.
2 Select Reset Smart Hub and enter your PIN (default is 0000).
3 After the reset is complete, select OK to finish.

If the image on your projector doesn’t look quite right, running a Picture Test can help you figure out whether the issue is with The Freestyle or something else.

1 Go to Settings, then select All Settings.
2 Press on Support, then select Device Care.
3 Choose Self Diagnosis.
4 Select Picture Test.
5 A high-definition image will appear on the screen. Carefully inspect it for any visual issues. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the test.

Understanding the Picture Test result:

  • If the image looks fine, the problem might be with an external device. Check cables, signal strength, or consult the external device’s manual.
  • If the test image shows problems or doesn’t appear at all, the issue could be with the projector itself. In that case, contact Samsung Support.

To reset the picture settings:

1 Go to Settings then select Picture.
2 Choose Expert Settings, then select Reset Picture.
3 Confirm by selecting Yes.

Distorted sounds can ruin your viewing experience. If you’re experiencing audio problems, you can run a Sound Test to diagnose the issue or reset the projector’s sound settings.

To perform a Sound Test:

1 Press and hold the Home button on The Freestyle’s remote until the quick settings menu appears.
2 Go to All Settings, then select Support.
3 Choose Device Care, then Self Diagnosis.
4 Select Sound Test.
5 The projector will play a test melody. Listen carefully and follow the on-screen prompts.

Understanding the Sound Test results:

  • If the sound plays clearly, the issue might be with an external audio device. Check the connections or refer to that device’s manual.
  • If the sound is still distorted, select Yes when asked. You'll be prompted to contact Samsung Support. Be sure to note the information shown on-screen for the support team.

To reset sound settings:

1 Go to Settings, then select All Settings.
2 Choose Sound, then select Expert Settings.
3 Press on Reset Sound, then confirm by selecting Yes.
