I took sometime researching on what SSD to buy. After going through lot of reviews and performance benchmark comparisions, i have bought 2tb samsung 980 pro. My laptop already had heatsink plate, so opted for non heatsink version. I am happy with my purchase. Data read and write is far better than the SSD that came in with the laptop. The only issue i faced is with the magician software which didn't work to clone my existing ssd. Tried around 10 times. I had to install OS on the new SSD losing old data.

Got this exact SSD yesterday 11/10 honestly. My old SSD would only download at around 11 Megabytes per second, this thing is maxing out my internet! Today I was getting 95 Megabytes per second download speeds with a 100 Meg plan, honestly might upgrade to a Gigabyte plan sense this thing can obviously keep up. Another thing to keep in mind is I only have a PCIe 3.0 mother board too, so I'm not even using this thing to it's max ability! The ONLY complaint I have is that windows was a pain to install on it, and honestly could have been user error or just my system, but everything else has been fantastic especially for the price.

It didn't take too long but since a Windows OS clone is a bit meticulous, the sector by sector portion is important. After successfully cloning and booting for the first time, I IMMEDIATELY noticed a rapid speed boost. I was shocked with such a drastic difference from the Samsung Evo SSD to the Samsung NVMe 1TB. Installed internally and due to the data transfer speeds, I bought an external 2TB of the same NVMe PRO 980. I've been using this drive for over a year and utilizing Samsungs NVMe tools, the drive has not any performance. Excellent product, have and will continue to recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had my 980 Pro for about a year. I also have a 850 Evo, 860 Pro and I'm about to purchase a 990 Pro. The reason I'm staying with Samsung is 1. Their memory controllers are the most high tech out of all brands. 2. Their products last a long time. My 850 is still going strong and it gets a terabyte of transfer every week. Finally, these drives are seriously fast. I wasn't expecting such a big increase going from a 860 Pro to a 980 Pro, but there really is a huge difference in speed between Sata and NVME M.2. If you are thinking about a Samsung drive or another brand, let me save you some trouble. Go with the Samsung and enjoy speed, and piece of mind.

nice 2tb nvme drive. i bought the 980pro with preinstalled heat sink. my asus older z170 deluxe mb did deactivate two of the six sata drive ports when i placed this m.2 drive into the sole slot in this 5 1/2 year old asus board. the speed and capacity of this drive are excellent even in this board. once i partitioned the drive with the live gparted cd, the installation of archlinux was smooth and fast. since samsung has not ported magician to linux, i am relying on the o/s' ability to manage trim and i left the last 200gb unpartitioned in the event that overprovisioning becomes a future option in my o/s.

Problem after problem ensued: everything, from a bad flash drive that corrupted the install, to a complete reinstall due to upgrade issues, went wrong. This poor SSD was wiped over and over again - making me nervous because that's a lot of read/write cycles it's racking up in a hurry! Now that everything works perfectly, this SSD screams and boot up is almost instantaneous. Files are available without delay, and I couldn't be happier with this drive's ability to take a lot of digital abuse and rock on like nothing ever happened. I highly recommend it without hesitation.

Given you properly cool the NVME drive you will have no issue getting consistently fast and reliable read and write speeds. Although I can't speak to the longevity of this specific model I have used other samsung ssd and have never had an issue. If your comparing a samsung ssd to a similarly quality alternative, even if the samsung costs 10-15% more I'd go with samsung. If the price difference is more than that I'd consider other brands otherwise I'd recommend defaulting to samsung in regards to buying pc memory.

This made it cheaper than much lower tier of device with only half of the capacity and only Gen 3. It's the best drive I have ever had and I feel good trusting it with my os and high value files. I also use it for my currently installed most demanding games thanks to having plenty of space for a few triple A installs.

The insulation took no more than 15 minutes and was the first time I installed a second SSD into a gaming device. It is so fast and add so much storage I would not recommend any other solid state hard drive outside of Samsung's. I am a long time Samsung user and my PS5 is my baby so I wanted to make sure whatever I got would work well and this is just a wonderful solid state, it's the only one I would recommend. I almost went for a four terabytes, if I had it to do over again I would have done it, that's how much I love it.

i've been a strong supporter of samsung ssds for the past decade. when it was time to upgrade my pc, i decided to go for a samsung branded m.2 drive. unfortunately, it appears as though the qa/qc for samsung m.2 ssds did not meet the same standards as the 800 series. please look up online about slow speeds (despite software updates). i bought my drive in february (so it's been about 9 months) with only 50% of the drive filled up, but it has already failed on me. look up online about 980 pro failed drive, there's numerous posts online about this issue with no solution. the fact that this is even a thing for so many people for a rather brand new drive is very concerning. not worth rma to deal with this again.

I have a first gen MacBook pro that's older than most users now that has its originally replaced Mac had with Samsung. It still hasn't failed in all this time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB about 2 years ago and it is a high-performance SSD that delivers impressive speeds but while its sequential read and write speeds are among the fastest for PCIe 4.0, real-world performance doesn’t always reflect the advertised numbers, especially for everyday tasks. The drive runs hot under sustained workloads, and if you get the non-heatsink version, thermal throttling can become an issue without proper cooling. Firmware problems in earlier batches raised reliability concerns, and although Samsung addressed them with updates, it left a stain on its otherwise solid reputation. Other than that, pretty solid product I do think it's worth the value because it's been working for me without fail.

just bought a new high end laptop from top 5 company. put in 2 980 pro 2 tb and get message that it does not work with the latest intel drivers installed with windows 11 on the latest intel storage controller that all new computers are shipping with intel driver 18.6.4.1022. there also are no drivers for this drive to install on the samsung website/downloads. so bought the premium samsung ssd and its magician software lists that the drive is incompatible with the latest intel storage controller drivers. hard to believe for what samsung charges for these drives. i have read all samsung community support comments which say to install and uninstall current drivers and it does not work. save your money until samsung fixes this.

The 2 terabyte drives and higher do have a bad history for dying really fast, but new bios has fixed that and this is the 1 tb model so I didn't have to deal with that issue. Overall I recommend samsungs nvme ssds some of the best on the market and samsung has really good customer service so I'm sure that if something did happen to my drive I would be able to get a deal on a new drive or a replacement if it was ever needed.

The drive is fast and has no issues with consistent read or writes, and I eventually moved it to my PS5 where it has been for about 7 months. The device didn't struggle with loading games quickly and was still more than fast enough for the minimum standards of the PS5. I got the thermal paste included model and have seen no reason to replace it yet and would deffintly recommend this drive as long as you're purchasing while it's on sale and has a more competitive price.

samsung had the recipe for success by keeping their flash as mlc while everyone else went to tlc or "3d nand". this gave them the edge in speed for years. and with the fact that the average home user wont use up the number of writes on an mlc flash drive inside of 10 years (i actually have an old vertex 2 from 2009 still going just fine) they decided they could afford to switch to the same tactic that everyone else is using of some slc cache and then very slow tlc or even more than 3 layer flash for final storage. will you get the advertised speeds? yes for a while till you run out of that single layer cache. will i recommend it to a friend? no! do your research and find out which other pcie4.0 m.2 drives beat this one and buy literally any of those.

I find myself using my gaming laptop for 3d modeling and Unreal Engine use, although it does also have to do with other hardware in that laptop, but it seems that the 980 performes without heating the laptop up and making the fans loud much better than the 990. I do wonder if swapping them would make an enormous impact, but they are both great peoducts...I am nitpicking for review sake. I will say that I do also have a WD Black that was free to test out and I ended up purchasing a new Samsung because I felt that if I wasn't managing the WD black with its console, it would cause problems. Like My computer overheating and melting the power cable input which was a pain

I Mainly use the PC for Games and Music production. No issues. No heat problem, no connectivity issues. My PC is q high end and crashing is not an option, I have not lost a single file and Storage is plenty for what I need. I lost all my files couple years ago, over 14 tb of information for school and music. I needed something reliable. I have 4 2TB, installed in the motherboard and PCI which holds some extra.

However, one of them can’t be read or write after powered off for longer than a day. Power it off again and the second time power on it always works fine. But the next day, same issue. It’s completely useless used in a computer. After trying it on a different PC, check the firmware etc, it’s still a mystery. The support page is useless and I have no idea how to even start a claim for warranty.

I've built a multitude of production, gaming, and casual systems for friends and family, and I can't recommend the Samsung 900 series enough. 970's for budget, 980's and 990's for performance. We've put them in about half a dozen systems, and so far there have been no issues whatsoever. For upgrading, the migration software is some of the easiest to use, and these drives make loading and booting of systems perform at thier absolute greatest.

I use the 1TB as my boot drive and the others as gaming or backup drives. The Samsung Magician software keep them all at the most current firmware for me. I don't have to worry about it at all. As I have slowly upgraded my previous drives with the 980 Pro's, I've noticed load speeds dramatically increase. The read/write speeds are easily double of comparable drives.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Literally the best PCEI 4.0 NVME SSD for write heavy professional applications like video editing, with the best sustained write speeds. For those unaware, SSD's have a write cache, and when writing large amounts of data in a sustained way, when that write cache is exhausted, the write speeds will plummet. The 980 pro 2tb is literally the best PCEI 4.0 drive in this regard and can write longer, at a faster speed, than any other drive from the same generation.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Worked perfectly in my PS5! Speeds are great, size fit perfectly even with a custom heatsink. Only possible downside of my use (no issue with the actual product) is that you can't update the firmware via the PS5. I plan to remove it sometime, buy an external adapter (current desktop doesn't have an M.2 slot and use Samsung's magician software to update the hard drives firmware. If possible, run the update first before installing in a PS5.

I picked this and do not regret it. I put it in my PC and I noticed immediately that my original SSD, only a year old, was not capable of doing what I wanted it to do, be fast. I'm a casual dad gamer and now I can run with these kids in FPS games like Call of Duty. It took care of a lot of lag issues with various games.

I've bought pc's from big very well known brands (won't say names but they're extraterrestrial lol), and this build is by far the best pc I've ever own and thanks to Samsungs NVMe SSD, my boot time is instantaneous, my load times are way too fast, there isn't a waiting time when searching my pc regardless if it's games, movies, or photos. Hands down the best type of drive to have!

Brought this couple years ago for my Ps5. Had to look up this problem I'm having and Im not the only one with this problem. I go to play my Playstation. Turn it on. Im thinking there was an outage. My system reset and then went to repairing my SSD. Been trying to fix it and all even safe mode. Nothing worked. Really disappointed! Im still a Samsung fanboy but this has no fix and stays at 13% and thats it. Have to turn the system off. Just blows.

the random read/write iops on my 980 pro 2tb drive are way below the specs. i am getting an average of 18,000 iops for random read and 87,000 iops for random write. the sequential write speed is nowhere near the specs either. it clocks in at around 3,000 mb/s. these numbers are from samsung magician. the drive is the only m.2 drive in my system, and it is connected to the first pcie 4.0 x4 m.2 slot on a gigabyte x570 aorus pro wifi motherboard.

I used the Samsung tool to clone data from the other SSD and it was a very smooth and easy experience. Really happy with this product. I would say that it is definitely slightly expensive compared to other brands. The one big edge that this Samsung SSD specifically has is its Samsung Magician software which is really good and really helpful.

So there is not as much thermal throttling. I added and after market cooler and it runs between 76 and 87 degrees just to ensure longevity. I am still running earlier 960 and 970 versions but wanted NVME4 so upgraded. Other brand w and comes before e have failed time and time again. Cor something run hot and throttle.

I love playing games and I want my PC to boot as fast as it possibly can. This drive does NOT disappoint! From power on to login screen takes 7 seconds average. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just installed this puppy, recovered my OS in less than 2 minutes (about 30GB compressed/100GB uncompressed) and I'm up and running. Ran CrystalDisk and it pegged reading around 6850 and writing just under 5000. I cannot get the theoretical fastest speed in the real world; copying from another NVMe only yields about 3000, which is still plenty fast enough (it might be a shared bus limitation or the speed of my other NVMe). I copied 50GB of large files (2-8GB each) to it in 18 seconds. Temps run around 45c idle, the max I saw is 56c under heavy load. The heatsink does a decent job, but I was hoping it would run cooler than my other NVMes that have aftermarket coolers. They all run between 42-47 idle. Overall, I have nothing to complain about. I have only been using it for an hour, but it's working great. And yeah, the title is a 4 Non Blondes reference.

I bought this to upgrade my hard drive in my laptop. All the professional recommendations said it was the best SSD out the and they are not wrong. I used the Samsung Magic software to clone my drive and it worked without any issues. It booted up right away and now I can even monitor the Temp of the drive. I now understand why it is considered the best. If you need a new SSD NVMe drive, get a Samsung, you won't be disappointed.

first month i hit 7000mb/5000mb then week 5-7 it dropped to 6600mb/4200mb then week 8-15 it dropped to 4400mb/3900mb then the week 16-20 it went all the way down to 3500mb/2900mb and then before i sent it back it droppen to 2900mb/2900mb . pictures are on the drive that i sent back for repairs. ill post pictures of the speeds if they fix it with out formatting it. and also ill change my rating if i got a broken one.

Built a gaming PC one year ago today 10/23/22 and choose this as my primary SSD for system boot, applications and such. No gaming on this SSD, thats what the other two M.1 and SATA ports are for. Drive has worked perfectly from day one. Best thing is how FAST everything is on this computer especially boot time. Literally form off less that 30 seconds and its up and ready to go. Both 1tb 980 pros have been flawless, and still operate after 4 years pf daily loaded operation as if they were new. No I haven't tried them in raid, but they are perfect either way. Also 890evo 1 tb ssd I use as my proxmox bare metal server stack, and it's nice but wish it was a tiny tint tiny bit faster on the write speed.

The PC hosts three virtual machines and has a lot of memory. Increasing the VM host's root file-system from a 1TB to a 2TB disk means all the VMs boot very quickly from SSD storage.. The combination of the 2TB Samsung SSD and large amount of RAM makes the PC a great virtual machine host.

Every drive in my PC is a samsung SSD or SSd Nmve.2. They are the most reliable SSDs I've ever owned and the 980 Nmve.2 is blazing fast. I have three 980 pro Nvme.2 drives in my MSI motherboard. My OS mounted on the 1tb Nvm and my PC boots up in under 20 seconds. I've been buying Samsung drives exclusively for the past 10 years and I don't think I'll ever buy another brand.

What a revelation - I expected speed, but the SSD let me do file functions instantly. Everything was extremely snappy including opening Canon CR3 RAW files in Photoshop and importing them into Lightroom CC. I'll soon build a tower Windows PC and will choose the Samsung 980 Pro again.

It is a solid performer with excellent consistent 3000+ MB/s read and write. Both drives came with the latest updated drivers and I highly recommend these drives.

Simply the best and most reliable SSD for PC. It speed up my computer so much as compared to other brands. The samsung magician software is very useful as well. It tells the ssd statistics such as TBW value. So we know exactly when the SSD is reaching the end of life. Thus, we can take appropriate action to back up data and replace the drive.

The software is good but weird, the magician app disables the ctrl+w command whenever an update is needed

My machine is super fast and I don't experience any lag in video editing, game loading, file transfers, or work related activities. I really cannot recommend any other drive if maximum performance is the goal.

Things to Keep in Mind: ⚠️ Best with PCIe 4.0 – It still works on older PCs, but it won’t hit top speeds. ⚠️ No heatsink included – Some setups might need one for extra cooling. Final Thoughts: Honestly, this SSD is a game-changer. My whole PC feels faster and smoother, and I don’t think I could go back to a slower drive.
