How does Cinavia work?
Movies protected by Cinavia carry an inaudible watermark embedded by the copyright owners in the movie’s audio tracks, this watermark indicates where and how the movie is allowed to be used. The audio watermark is designed to stay in the audio tracks wherever they are played back, including after they have been copied, captured by a camcorder, or converted to a different format.
Whenever the use of content is protected by Cinavia, playback or copying of unauthorized copies may be stopped or audio may be muted, depending on which Cinavia code is found and what operation is being performed. Some movies may play the first 20 minutes but will then be muted and an explanatory message will display on the TV screen the Blu-ray player is connected to.
