Bought to be OS drive as I've heard great things as far as speed and reliability. Overall it's lived up to or exceeded things I'd read. Only issue is when I view it on my AV health screen it will show at 90% health while all other drives will show. 99 or 100. And it's newer than all other drives. I have an external drive that is probably 10 years old. It's been dropped. Kicked. And yelled at. When I plug it in. It shows 80%. This concerns me. Hopefully it's just because of it housing the os it works harder. My hope is it stays at 90 for quote sometime. Oh. Lighting fast boot. I'm not even in my chair by the time it's at the password screen.

I upgraded to the Samsung 980 1TB NVMe M.2 and the difference was immediate. Runs good at full process usage however it's just too small to game with and need to get extra ssd /even an external if you game it can only hold call of duty your operating system and thats about it if I could go back I would have gotten atleast a 500gb or even larger for my first one. It's rough having to delete and re-download games. Also bogs down when multiple games are installed and memory has less then 1gb left. Severely slows down and no 32gb of ram didn't help I ended up getting an external that worked good as my mule storage until my pc blue screened and ssd was fried from working too hard dont get this small one get bigger you'll thank me later

this was installed on the family computer and while the previous drive was a typical "sata ssd" i never noticed how slow it was. after learning about different storage types, i now realize why nvme is so much faster. and it is noticeable! the load times for the initial startup is almost instant now. i don't even see the windows loading screen. pictures are clicked and opened almost immediately. i didn't know that a storage device could make such a difference, but my family has informed me that my pc is more than capable and switching to this drive was the breath of life it needed to be brought back into the 21st century. overall super happy with the drive.

I am very impressed with this little SSD. I have used other NVMe SSDs and did not have a good experience with their speed benefits until I came across this one. I thought I would give a Samsung M.2 NVMe SSD a shot and I am very glad I went with this 1TB model. It is able to quickly boot my computer, transfer large video and photo files from my scuba diving trip to Cozumel (GoPro), and works perfectly for my video games. All in all, if you are looking for an all-in-one solution, I recommend this NVMe drive. Don't make the mistake of going with a slightly cheaper model - the logic controller on this drive is worth the money.

I needed extra storage for the videos that I edit. I picked up this 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD because I had read good things about the speed and reliability. Installing it was a breeze. I formatted the drive to my liking and edited some videos to test out the speed. This drive was blazing fast. It also allowed me to export faster because the encoder wasn't being bogged down by the drive speed. As for reliability, I transferred files to and from this drive and it never lost performance in the time I have had it. I would definitely recommend this drive to anyone looking for more storage for their laptop or desktop.

Wasn't sure what to think of the Samsung 980 PRO, but it is fast! Easy to install and lightning fast. It has absolutely SPEED and quality that one comes to expect from Samsung. I watch my spouse spend most of my day in Adobe Programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. She used to get frustrated at how slow the programs were, but with this all I hear is her raving about how fast everything is! I do think this gets hotter than I'd like - even with the heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control. I feel better that they are looking at addressing that, but it misses the mark. Otherwise don't look at anything else - just trust this product to greatly increase your expectations.

So I purchased this a few months ago and the read and write capabilities far exceeded my expectations. I'm pretty much (I've been this way since my galaxy S4) Samsung for life! Every other brand is so inferior in terms of compatability smooth interface, program ability, just everything about samsungs products are busy amazing! I wish I could afford some of of the higher end samsung tablets to test out because they look amazing and tablets are always great to use as a command center for all of my other samsung products, I give the NVMe ssd 10 out of 5 stats all day!

I purchase two of the 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD 1TB about a year ago, one to upgrade my new HP Probook and used the second SSD in a StarTech Enclosure for an external back-up drive. I used the Samsung Software to clone the drive and as usual the software from Samsug worked flawlessly. Both drives are super super fast and are working perfectly and I have not had one issue with either drive. For the past 6 or 7 years I have upgraded several of my laptops and desktops going back and starting with 840, 850 and 860 Series, everyone one is still working and going strong. Even the older ones are still fast and working as good as the first day I installed them. SAMSUNG SSDs are the best!!! I would not use any other brand.

The Samsung 980 is a solid SSD for the price. With read speeds up to 3,500 MB/s, it’s fast enough for gaming, boot drives, and general use. I have both, the 980 Pro 1 TB SSD NVMe™ M.2 1TB and 970 Evo Plus 1TB for my OS and the 980 for game drive. I have heatsinks on both, because my intel 9900KS cpu runs pretty hot and I didn't use liquid cooling. Both drives are spot on for read and write speeds as advertised and are way faster than the average user could ever need. i've had both for years. Obviously the 970 longer and have abuse them thoroughly, and they are both are running like the day I got them. Samsung makes great drives, great memory, and well worth every penny.

I've been using the Samsung 980 NVMe as the dedicated drive for my Monero node, blockchain, wallet, and mining files, and it's been excellent. Compatibility was flawless, throughput is more than enough for my workload, and latency has never been an issue. It isn't the fastest NVMe Samsung makes, but it stays responsive and handles constant reads and writes without slowing down. I had the the 980 pro 2tb and it came with bad firmware that I didn't know about till it died, the faulty firmware caused the sad to constantly write the same things over and over till it corrupted itself and turned on "read only" mode making it unusable. And when I asked for a replacement they had none and could give me a different model that was the same price. And since I bought it 2+ years ago they gave me the price it "would've cost then" instead of the current price that everyplace has listed with is 300+$

I save pictures and videos of all of my family and friends. The Samsung SSD 980 m.2 drive saved me from having to downsize my collection. Having an extra 500GB of storage is a game changer for me. I always am in need of more storage for my photos and videos. The 980 nvme is a game changer for me. I like how the 980 PRO manages heat on its own to deliver durable and reliable performance while minimizing performance fluctuations during extended usage. The 980 PRO uses nickel coating to help manage the controller's heat level and a heat spreader label to deliver effective thermal control of the NAND chip. I was sick of using a SD drive that made moving files painfully slow. After easily installing the SSD I was ready to transfer my files at lightning speed. The storage and write speeds make this a winner in my book. The load time for Windows is also extremely fast under 15 seconds. This seemed to handle most mid tier games graphics with ease. The price is affordable and I would recommend it.

The lighting fast performance from the 980 increased the startup of my computer, the transfer speed from one drive to another, and the opening of programs. I was so impressed by the first one, I grabbed two more! I'm able to do video editing, gaming, and even just simple browsing so much faster now. I've had my 1TB 980 installed as my system/boot drive for 11 months, and it has given me rock-solid reliability and a serious boost in boot speed over the Seagate spinner it replaced. I'm getting ready to build a new PC, and I will definitely move the 980 to that new system. I'll be looking for motherboards with two (or more) M.2 slots so I can add another, larger Samsung NVME SSD for faster access when I'm editing video, or streaming media files using PLEX or Jellyfin.

I have been using this drive as a secondary drive in my PC for a few weeks now and it's so fast that i don't even think about it being there. This latest Samsung SSD doesn't dissapoint. I also own the 980 Pro and the 860 QVO SSD's. I've added this to an Nvidia Shield as an external network storage. Compared to an SD that I had with a USB adapter it's a game changer! I can't ever see myself going back to HDD or SD cards. Everything loads faster! This is the way to do storage now. Even if you don't have a device that can support it you can always buy an external adapter and use it tgat way. I love it!

what you expect when you buy a product is that it performs as advertised and if anything goes wrong the manufacturer will stand behind their product. my 980 ssd failed, suddenly and without any warning 3 weeks ago and i still do not have a working ssd. i did not get what i expected when i bought this product. based on my experience with the 980 ssd i would say overall, it is a bad product. i would not recommend this product to anyone - do not buy!!!

Have had my 500gb 980 nvme for awhile now and have never had any issues. I've moved it between multiple different rigs, have transferred so much data onto it I couldn't even give an estimate, and it still works as great as it did on day one and transfer speeds have always been top notch. My experience with the Samsung 980 Pro nVME drive has been excellent. Since updating the firmware to the latest release it has been rock solid in terms of reliability. The speed has been more than sufficient for my needs and I can recommend it for both gamers and professionals. I have the 1TB model but it comes in various capacities, including 2TB and 4TB. The 980 Pro is a Gen 4X4 PCIE nVME drive but is compatible with both Gen 3 and 5 interfaces.

I have been looking to upgrade the storage in my gaming pc for months from an old hard drive to something faster. I have been looking at the 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD for quite a while and decided to finally get the upgrade and the difference this makes on the startup and loading times is insane! It used to take me up to a minute or more to get my pc loaded up and ready for use, now with this new SSD windows is loaded up, programs ready, and files accessible in under 10 seconds! It was one of the easiest things to install, it's as easy as opening up your pc, plugging the stick into the NVMe slot on your motherboard (as long as you have the slot for it) and place the screw to hold it in and BAM! your incredibly fast storage is ready to be used! I could not recommend you this more if you are looking for a good storage upgrade with extremely fast speeds. I

One thing I have to say is "Love the drive!" Performance is great love the app that allows you to see status of the drive among other key things, I have not had any issues with the product and actually bought 2 of them for 2 desktop builds, which I did lots of investigating, and of course there are other options out there, but they always seem to under performance, but Samsung is the way to go for me and will continue to buy them.

Been using Samsung products ever since I swapped to m2s from SSDs. They are super fast and provide reliable performance. I concurrently own the 970 EVO Plus, 980 Pro and now the 980 all at 1 TB storage capacities. Each of them have been very fast, significantly faster than any standard SATA SSD's and the 980 is no exception. I'm very happy with the performance but agree with the argument that NVMe PCI Express Gen 4 drives would likely not really make a huge difference over fast PCIe Gen3 SSD drives. Also the drives obviously cost more. I'm currently using a the 980 pro for the operating system and the 1tb 980 for storing games and load times are blazing fast.This is a very high quality product and you won't be disappointed in the performance. I have two of these NVMe drives in custom built computer, and they have worked almost flawlessly for the past 3 years. Samsung memory has never let me down, and it is very fast over 5000 MB/s. I use it with my PCIe Gen 4 slots, and I have used them in both RAID 0 and AHCI configurations. I've been buying Samsung SSD since 2008 or so. I love their products, The drives with the least failures.. Recently I need to replace some of my NVME and Sata SSD. I need large capacity and Samsung didn't have 4TB. So I tried 2 other companies in 6 months, both of the other drives failed with 90 days. I went back to the Samsung 980 pro w/ heatsink and it works like a champ and it's faster then both other drives.

I got this product 6 years ago. Ive put it theough countless hours of gaming and editing. It has bever slowed down in speed what so ever. As for capacity at the time it was plenty enough for me at the time, I now see myself needing more. Deleting games and moving them onto a separate hardrive is a frequent thing now. Compatibility was a non issue from the start as nvme drives are pretty standard these days.

I've owned it for about a year now, no complaints at all. It's just as fast as it was when I first got it, the Samsung Magician software works well for firmware updates and checking it's health, and it's never lost any data or cut out or anything like that. I'm confident that it'll last the rest of my laptop's life, and I'll likely buy a 980 series SSD when I build a new gaming PC in a year or two.

I've bought many Samsung NVMe drives over the years, as well as drives from other brands. Let me tell you, the difference between Samsung and other brands is remarkable. Samsung has never failed me. My drive is super fast, and my workstation PC boots up in under 10 seconds. The Samsung NVMe 2s have never failed me; I've never experienced corrupted files, and the speed is unbelievably fast.

They (Samsung) should state that their are no drivers for this drive for Windows 7. The old NVMe drivers do not work with the 980. Their support people although very nice and knowledgeable say their is no driver available and don't know when or if one will be available. I can only give this drive one star because it doesn't work on the system intended. I bought a very expensive brick.

Recently I bought two SSD drives, one to upgrade my laptop and I used the second in an external enclosure for a backup drive. They both are Extremely fast! They both work great with no issues. I have upgraded several of my laptops and PCs with the SAMSUNG SSDs going back more than 5 years ago everyone is still going strong. I will only use the SAMSUNG BRAND SSDs!!!

I've had this for about 2 1/2 years and it hasn't failed me yet I'm proud to be a samsung user I have a z fold 5 that I absolutely love been a samsung user since the S4 or older always have and always well 100% satisfied customer I just wish repairs were cheaper. I purchased this NVME back in 2021 and so far it's performed exactly how od expect. There may be a little bit of wear as seen using crystal disk, but no bad sectors or anything major (it's still has 93% health after 4 years of use). I did slap on an aftermarket m.2 drive cooler which does mitigate the temps a lot, otherwise it's Samsung and it's quality.

I recently bought this to replace the original 128GB SSD in my 2016 Dell XPS. It was a nice upgrade. SSDs have come a long way in the past six years, both in terms of capacity for the price and speed. If you own an older machine that is user-serviceable, I highly recommend getting some tools and upgrading your SSD. It's well worth your effort!

Either way it is amazing and has given me zero problems thus far and I've had it for several years rather since 2018. My last 980 m.2 was the first drive I've ever had fail. It lasted right around two years while the HDD I picked up at the same time is still kicking. Even so, I wouldn't count them out. While working, it was as fast as expected, they're easy to install, and are still a top choice for computer enthusiasts, gamers, content creators, etc.

I have had this drive for a few years now. It is my is drive, and even at pcie 3.0 I haven't found any need to upgrade the os to a faster drive. I use a 990 4.0 1tb x2 for app drive/storage and one for games and love them for the lore demanding reads and writes, but my good ole 980 has my os up and running before ei sit down in my chair.

This is my first NVMe storage device but even coming from an SSD the speeds are night and day, I'm using this one for my boot drive and my PC can be off or asleep and when I turn it on, it's on almost instantly. My drive before I would be able to make a cup of coffee and come back and still have to wait for Windows to fully boot up.

I've been using the 980 500gb SSD for over 4 years now as my primary drive and throughout many reads and writes it's gone through, it is still holding up very reliably. It's continued to run plenty fast enough. I would say going forward into 2026 and beyond, you will want at least a 1tb drive minimum.

This was a welcome upgrade to our desktop PC. We had an older 2.5 inch SATA SSD that was only 128 GB, so size was an issue. The PC still seemed fairly snappy, so we weren't really worried with performance, etc. Installation was simple, aside from one issue and that is our motherboard not having the screw in the mSATA slot. This is no fault of the Samsung .. most motherboards would already have that screw already in place, so that it was there to be used. We added this initially as a second drive and did not reinstall Windows on it, yet. We have some video games installed here and they load so much faster than before. The additional capacity is also very welcome, as we can fit multiple games. I look forward to getting around to reinstalling Windows and putting it on this drive and using this for boot, as I can tell that it is faster than the other SSDs that we have in the computer. I would highly recommend this drive to anyone looking for either performance or capacity improvements.

Bought this drive over a year ago for my PC build and attached windows to it as my c drive then when booting the pure speed that the drive is moving instant booted passed the screen and had a major improvement to all the gaming and overall speed off the drive 10/10 will be buying again

So i reall think The Samsung 980 is a far cry from the 980 Pro. Though that’s to be expected, since it’s a PCIe 3.0 model, it doesn’t do as great a job leading the pack as past Samsung SSDs have done. It’s a strong drive, but just edged out by the competition at pretty much every angle

The Samsung 980 1 TB NVMe M.2 SSD is an incredible product. Compatible across a wide range of computers and other electronics. The speed of this drive is Supersonic! And installation is a breeze! If you are looking to expand your disc capacity, this IS the product for all your needs!

This drive is by far the most stable and fastest drive I've ever used on my laptop. I installed a fresh copy of POP!-OS and everything works wonderfully. Way better than the crucial nvme and the stock nvme that I had. Samsung always makes the best in electronics. Thank you Samsung.

Great drive, but it loses all of its advantages the moment you try to use it as an external solid-state drive. No matter the enclosure, Samsung does not have drivers for it, and their Magic Disk software won't recognize it, limiting its feature set to the same as any other name SSD.
I recommended this product.

Purchased about 3 months ago and realized then that I had been working twice as many hours in the day using my old external HD. Now my workdays fly buy soooo smooth with no more laggy struggling mechanical noises! Also download/uploading, or just moving files is just effortless.

I upgraded to the Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD 500GB, and it's impressive! With read speeds up to 3,500 MB/s, it significantly improves load times. Easy to install and equipped with thermal management, it's a reliable upgrade for both gaming and productivity. Highly recommend!

I used to have a Samsung SSD as my boot drive, so I was a bit skeptic to switch to a NVMe drive, since i didn't think it would change anything at all. But boy, am I glad I did the change. Bootup time was cut down to seconds, and most of my programs seem to respond faster.

Bought it 2 years ago and it is still going strong. Download speeds(read and write) is top notch,I wish I had opted for the 1tb or 2tb version but couldn't due to funds. I recommend this ssd if anyone needs one that is fast,efficient, and by a trusted brand like Samsung.
