How to set up and use Bixby on your Samsung Smart TV

The Bixby intelligent assistant makes it easy to control your important devices in an intuitive and hands-free way. Bixby for the TV has been designed to enhance your entertainment experience, minimising your time spent navigating through menus and maximising your time with the shows you love. 

For newer models, you can even control your TV with the help of Bixby using Cantonese. The Cantonese version of Bixby integrates the core features which allow you to spend your leisure time more comfortably. This guide introduces how to set up and use your Bixby intelligent assistant on your Samsung Smart TV.

Note:

  • To use Bixby intelligent assistant, your Samsung TV must be connected to the Internet
  • To use Bixby intelligent assistant, your Samsung TV must be logged in with a Samsung account
  • Using Cantonese as Bixby language is only supported on 2023 or newer TV models
  • The availability of some functions, menu names, setting paths, and interface layouts may vary depending on your device model, system software version, application version, and Bixby language

The Voice Assistant button on your Samsung smart remote

If you have not activated Bixby intelligent assistant before, you can start setting up by pressing the Voice Assistant button on your smart remote.

However, if there is no response after pressing the Voice Assistant button, you can also follow the below steps to set up your Bixby.

Step 1.
Open Settings on your TV and select All Settings.

Step 2.
Select Advanced Features.

Step 3.
Select Voice.

Note:
If you have not logged in to your Samsung account, a pop-up window will appear prompting you to log in.
Please follow the on-screen instructions to sign up or log in to your Samsung account.

Step 4.
Select Bixby Settings.

Step 5.
Select Bixby language according to your preference, then select Next.

Note: Using Cantonese as Bixby language is only supported on 2023 or newer TV models

Step 6.
Select OK to complete the initial Bixby setup.

You can enter Bixby Settings screen from settings menu or Bixby home.

Step 1.
Find and open Bixby application from your Smart Hub.

Step 2.
Select the Gear Icon on the top right hand corner to enter Bixby Settings.

Step 1.
Open Settings on your TV and select All Settings.

Step 2.
Select Advanced Features.

Step 3.
Select Voice.

Select Bixby Settings.

Available Bixby Settings

1 Voice Wake-Up

Note: If you are using Cantonese as Bixby language, Voice Wake-Up function is not supported at this moment. (The Voice Wake-Up settings cannot be adjusted and the related settings will not be effective)

Hands-free wake-up

If this function is enabled, you can wake Bixby up without using smart remote. You can also adjust the settings according to your needs:

Always: Whether your TV screen is on or off, Bixby is awakened whenever the wake-up phrase is detected
Only when the Screen is on: Bixby is awakened when the wake-up phrase is detected only while the TV screen is on
Off: Bixby will not respond to the wake-up phrase. If this option is selected, you can only wake-up Bixby by Voice Assistant button on your smart remote.

 

Wake-up phrase

You can change the wake-up phrase for Bixby here.

 

Voice registration

You can register your voiceprint here, allowing Bixby to recognize your voice more easily and enhance the accuracy when receiving your commands.

Register Now: Click this button and follow the on-screen instructions to register your voice
Improve voice recognition accuracy: Increase the accuracy of voice input by recording more voice samples for Bixby to reference
Delete all voice recordings: Delete all the voice samples you have recorded

 

Using your voice with a Soundbar's microphone

If your TV is connected to a Samsung Soundbar, you can enable this option to input voice commands through your Soundbar.

 

Talk to Bixby without wake-up

If this option is enabled, you can give consecutive commands or give commands when a notification pops up for certain commands without having to call Bixby each time.

 

Wake-up sensitivity

You can adjust Bixby sensitivity to the wake-up phrase according to your preference (High/Medium/Low).

2 Language and Voice Style

Bixby Language

You can choose your Bixby language here.

Note:

  • Bixby language can be different from your TV language. For example, you can use Chinese interface for your TV while configuring Bixby to interact with you using English
  • The availability of some functions may vary according to your Bixby language

Voice Style

You can change Bixby Voice Style here.

3 Bixby Feedback

Sound Feedback

If this option is enabled, there will be a notification sound when Bixby starts or stops receiving commands.

 

Voice Response

If this option is enabled, Bixby will respond to your command by voice.

4 Enhanced AI Features

Agree to use the enhanced Vision AI Companion service

If this option is enabled, you can activate Vision AI Companion to enhance the voice assistant's capabilities and expand its functions.

Note: Vision AI Companion is not supported at this moment if your Bixby language is Cantonese

5 Privacy

Allow Audio Recording Review

If this option is enabled, Bixby will review your audio recordings to improve Bixby's voice recognition.

 

Allow voiceprint review

If this option is enabled, Bixby will review your voiceprints to improve Bixby's wake-up accuracy.

 

Bixby Services

If some of the Bixby features require access right to your data (for example your location) to provide more accurate information, the services will be listed here. You can also adjust the access rights of each item here.

If no services require access right to your data, this section will not be visible.

 

Unlink device

Disconnect the registered Bixby on your Samsung account from this device.

After unlinking, you have to link again to use Bixby.

 

Leave Bixby

Delete all information for the Bixby registered with this Samsung account.

After deleting your data, you will need to wait for approximately one week in order to register Bixby again for this Samsung account.

Using Bixby with the Voice Assistant button on your smart remote

If Bixby is activated, you can press and hold the Voice Assistant button on your Samsung Smart Remote and say your command into the microphone on your remote.

Bixby will display the received command as text in the bottom-left corner on your TV screen, then execute your command immediately.

Step 1.
Press and hold the Voice Assistant button on your Smart Remote. A Bixby icon will appear on the bottom left corner of your TV screen, indicating Bixby is waiting for your commands.

Step 2.
Continue to hold the Voice Assistant button and say your command into the microphone on the remote. For example, "Explore Bixby".
After finishing voice input, you can release the Voice Assistant button.

Step 3.
Bixby will execute your command.

Using Bixby with hands-free wake-up

If Bixby is activated and the hands-free wake-up function is enabled in Bixby settings, you can wake up Bixby by saying "Hi Bixby" to your TV without using your Smart Remote. You can say your command directly after waking up Bixby.

Note: Hands-free wake-up function is not supported at this moment if your Bixby language is Cantonese.

Step 1.
Say "Hi Bixby" to your TV. A Bixby icon will appear on the bottom left corner of your TV screen, indicating Bixby is waiting for your commands.

Step 2.
Say your command into the microphone on the remote. For example, "Explore Bixby".

Step 3.
Bixby will execute your command.

1 Channels

Step 1.
Awake Bixby and input your command. For example, "Go to channel 2-1".

Step 2.
Bixby has changed the TV channel from 1-2 to 2-1 for you.

2 Open Apps and services

Step 1.
Awake Bixby and input your command.
For example, "YouTube search Samsung".

Step 2.
Bixby has opened the corresponding application
and initiate the search for you.

Note: For some applications, Bixby may only have the right to open the application but not interact with the services inside

3 Device Control

Step 1.
Awake Bixby and input your command. For example, "Set volume to 50".

Bixby has adjusted the volume level for you.

4 Media Controls

Step 1.
Awake Bixby and input your command. For example, "Fast forward 10 seconds".

Step 2.
Bixby has fast forwarded the media being viewed for you.

5 Settings

Step 1.
Awake Bixby and input your command. For example, "Open Picture Settings".

Step 2.
Bixby has opened the Picture Settings menu for you.

6 Web Browser

Awake Bixby and input your command.
For example, "Google search Samsung".

Bixby has searched the keywords on the Internet for you.

Note: If Enhanced AI Features is activated, Bixby will perform Internet search with Vision AI Companion

7 Explore Bixby

Step 1.
Awake Bixby and input command "Explore Bixby".

Bixby has opened Bixby application for you.
