How to use the Now brief feature on your Samsung display

Now brief displays useful information —such as weather, memos, and the status of devices registered with SmartThings—on your Samsung display when the screen is off. It can be activated by user detection or voice commands, allowing you to play music, use the camera, and apply wallpaper without turning on the screen.

Note:

  • Availability of Now brief and certain features may vary by model or region.
  • Feature names and icons may vary or change depending on software updates.

1. Supported models

  • 2023 models: Q70C or above TV models with an OS upgrade.
  • 2024 models: Q70D or above TV models, M7 or above and G7 or above monitor models.
  • 2025 models: Q8F or above TV models, M7 or above monitor models, and The Movingstyle.
  • 2026 models: M80H or above models.

Note: The Frame models are not supported.

2. Requirements

  • The TV must be signed in to a Samsung account.
  • Some features require the TV to be registered in the SmartThings app.

1. How to activate Now brief

Enable Now brief on your display by following the steps below.

Step 1.
Press the Home button on your TV's remote control, navigate to and select Settings, and then select All Settings.

Step 2.
Select Advanced Features.

Step 3.
Select Now brief.

Step 4.
Select the desired menu to turn it on.

Enable with User Detection: Launches when a nearby user is detected while the screen is off.

Enable with Voice: Hands-free wake-up is enabled and launches when you say “Hi Bixby” or “Bixby”.

2. How to launch Now brief

  • You can choose to enable Now brief with User Detection or Voice or both for a more seamless experience.
  • If Voice is enabled, say “Hi Bixby” or “Bixby” when the screen is off to launch the Now brief. To check or change this setting, go to: Edit > Settings > All Settings > Advanced Features > Voice > Bixby Settings > Voice Wake-up.

  • In quiet environments, User Detection may not work reliably. You can adjust the sensitivity by selecting Edit > Settings > User Detection from the bottom right of the Now brief screen.

  • The Now brief screen turns off automatically after a set time. To change this, go to Edit > Settings > Timeout from the bottom right of the Now brief screen.

Now brief includes multiple contents that help you manage your day.

Note: The supported contents may vary depending on the model, region, or user environment.

1. Weather: View weekly and hourly forecasts. Tap for detailed information.

2. Memo: Use the Memo to write, send, and view memos. Selecting it displays a list of previously written messages. To use,

Option 1. Use the SmartThings app:

After registering your TV in SmartThings app, open the app on your mobile device. Navigate to the location with your TV, select your TV’s card, tap the Featured tab, then tap Now brief, and enter your message.

Option 2. Use Bixby voice commands:

If the Now brief is set to Enable with Voice, you can add memos by voice even when the screen is off. For example, say “Hi Bixby, add a new note: ‘Happy Birthday.’”

3. Home Insight: The Home Insight provides suggestions and real-time status updates for all your devices registered in the same SmartThings account. If no information is available, a guide content will appear. 

Note: This feature becomes available after you register at least one device in the SmartThings app.

4. Camera: Monitor your space through connected IoT cameras. Tap the content to view the real-time video.

Note:

  • The content becomes available when a compatible IoT camera is connected in SmartThings.
  • Some camera models may not be supported.

5. Samsung TV Plus: Discover a variety of interesting content recommended by Samsung TV Plus, without turning on your TV.

Note: Available in Samsung TV Plus supported countries.

Personalize your Now brief by updating the wallpaper, adjusting contents, and managing settings:

1. Select Edit to adjust the settings.

3. Select Contents to customize which contents appear.

4. Select Settings to manage the following:

  • User Detection: Adjust sensitivity (High/Medium/Low) or set Inactive Schedule. The Inactive Schedule disables the user detection feature during the time period you set.
  • Timeout: Set how long the screen stays on before turning off automatically.
  • Night Mode: Prevent the Now brief from turning on in dark environments. When the surroundings are dark, this setting keeps the screen off even if a user is detected.
  • Auto Loop: Automatically cycle through multiple content pages.
  • Auto Adjustment: The contents order is tailored to your usage and the updated information.
  • Tips: View usage instructions.

Now brief is designed to fit around your routine—offering quick access to personalized information and controls without interrupting your day. Whether you're starting your morning or winding down, it keeps your display quietly useful in the background.
