My device doesn’t recognize the handwriting with S Pen

There are a few different external factors that can interfere with the S Pen's function.

Basic S Pen Troubleshooting

1 Remove any third-party cases or covers. Cases with magnetic closures or clasps can cause interference with S Pen recognition, and screen protectors can cause inconsistent motion and pressure when using the S Pen.

ㆍHard or rubbery surface for writing

ㆍUneven surface can affect consistency

ㆍThickness of screen protector can affect the screen sensitivity

ㆍDirty or old screen protector can affect performance

ㆍRemove the screen protector and retest the S Pen.

2 Change the S Pen tip. Not all S Pens support changing the tip. A changing tool and replacement tips for your S Pen are included with the S Pen if the tip can be changed. The tip of your S Pen may need to be changed if it is worn, your phone has trouble recognizing the S Pen, or pen strokes are inconsistent.

Perform a software update on a phone or tablet

1 Download updates manually.

On your device, go to Settings > Software update, and then tap Download and install. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to update your device. After the update, your device will restart.

2 Install the update using Smart Switch.

Open Smart Switch on your PC and connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable. If an update is available for your phone, you will see a blue Update button on the Smart Switch start screen. \

Tap Update > Update > OK , and then tap OK when the update is complete.

3 Check your phone or tablet after the update.

If you were having issues before the software update, use the phone or tablet normally to see if the problem has been solved.

Reboot the phone or tablet

Your device will require the backup password to unlock after rebooting.

1 Power off your device.

Press and hold the Power key.

2 Turn your device back on.

Wait 30 seconds after your device has completely powered off, and then press and hold the Power key until the Samsung logo appears. 

3 Test your device.
