samsung changed the fitting at the top of the filter so it no longer fits in the housing. i tried the online chat and then called the number they suggested to speak directly to a person. the advice for making the new filter fit was inaccurate. no amount of force would work. i tried amazon and ebay hoping to find the older model to no avail. our service person said the whole housing would have to be replaced to accommodate the new filter design. no warning ahead of time from samsung about the change and no opportunity to purchase the older filter design. do to this and several other required service calls, this will be my last samsung product.

Just like literally everyone else, I had to nearly break the water filter housing to get the new filter in because Samsung in their infinite wisdom decided to change the locking design, and designed it in a way that you have to use an old one to rotate the tumbler. If you tossed out your old filter; you're outta luck, buy a new fridge Thankfully it actually went in. But between this and literally every fridge repair-guy refusing to work on a Samsung fridge, the only word-of-mouth recommendation Samsung deserves is "avoid like the plague". I expect this kinda thing from a knock-off brand, not the official product. Get it together Samsung, do better.

similar to others on here, i noticed the new replacement filter i bought didn't fit in the refrigerator i bought only 2 years ago. i wasted nearly $100 on replacement filters because 1) best buy doesn't do exchanges on an opened water filter and 2) i thought the first one was a manufacturing error and you can't tell until you actually open the package. so now i have a fridge that i can't use for water or ice. i just went through a chat with a service representative. they said to expect an email response within 2 business days. i expect them to send me a new refrigerator filter fitting at no cost to me to resolve this. if they do not, the 1 star rating will remain and it is doubtful i will purchase another large item appliance from samsung ever again.

greetings. i feel the pain here. here’s my caveman fix, less samsung recommendations: install the filter up to the point it refuses to lock-in. apply some pressure. pull the filter out. look at the impressions on the filter teeth (see pic from another caveman). shave off material below the first tooth impression attempting to keep the same design shape. then basically remove the aft or the third tooth above the base (see pic). you can use a regular file that you would find in your toolbox. a course file to start, then a fine one to smooth out, or as i use, a dremel tool to file it down (be careful with a powered dremel as it can take a lot off fast). keep at it until it fits. always works for me. only use filters with nsf 42, 53, 401 protections. hope this helped.

kinda crazy, that a company could be so incompetent, but samsung has achieved that status with the faulty redesign of this filter. it does not fit my samsung refrigerator after the redesign. and, to top it all off, samsung has been receiving this compliant for the last 3 years, and has done nothing to address the issue. please, don't waste your time and money, ditch samsung. i will never purchase any samsung product going forward!

i purchase your refrigerator based o what i know about other products, i have a very expensive refrigerator that i cant get filters for, the product number is the same but the item is not. the filter will not fit not matter how hard to try and da29-00003b and da29-00003g is not the same. someone needs to look at the product. a blind man can see that. i now have a refrigerator that is useless.

Not a happy customer I have been buying these filters for years only to be told the filter has now been re-designed and it no longer fits my fridge - apparently my fridge is deemed to be too old!!! I didn't realise my fridge came with a sell by date and Samsung would stop making the appropriate filters thus resulting in the fact we can no longer use the cold water facility.

i purchased a replacement filter (da29-00003g) for my rfg298aars fridge, it doesn’t fit. why have you changed the size of the notches in the filter. what kind of quality control do you have at samsung.. apparently i am not the only one with this complaint. in other words i don’t need to send a photo, someone already has. what are you going to do to resolve this issue.

I have tried numerous times to replace my filter only to find the design has changed. This is not compatible with my appliance, apparently deemed "old" being 5 years old (with a 10 year warranty??!) Just like everyone else, this filter does not fit my older Samsung fridge despite being listed as the compatible filter. Also, the stupid "twist your old filter all the way to the left to reset the lock" troubleshooting guide did not work for me, and sounds like a great way to break your water filter completely. Ridiculous that Samsung hasn't addressed this issue.

Samsung really messed up by producing two different key lock mechanisms fir the same model of filter. Also, their website even recommends a tall slim filter for my fridge instead of tge short fat one it actually needs! On top of that, it's NOT easy to remove and old filter, especially due to it's location. They can't have got it any more wrong!

As per the previous review I am furious that Samsung have changed the filter fitting so that I cannot replace with a new filter. Even the picture on the box is different from the filter fitting inside. It also varies from the picture above. Complete lack of faith in Samsung. Will be taking this further. Disgraceful.

i have a seven year old samsung refrigerator. why on earth would you change the design for the water filter? i live in a city where the water is very questionable. so you're telling me that now i either have to buy a new refrigerator or go out and buy bottled water? what a total disappointment!!

I bought this item from 2 other suppliers and they do not fit my refrigerator even though it has the same model number as the ones I have used for 10 years. I was led to believe that this problem was unheard of but I see otherwise from reviews. Very disappointed.

I purchased my Samsung refrigerator in 2012, the filter that was match to my model no longer fits. I am very disappointment with my Samsung frig, the ice maker also doesn't work and this is my 2nd replacement. I will never purchase another Samsung again.

Samsung appliances suck! I bought a dishwasher that failed after two years. Now they change the filter profile on replacement cartridges for my expensive side by side and the H20 filter is no longer replaceable. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTER SAMSUNG!!!!!!!

Locking filter is incorrectly shaped. It is not fit for purpose. I have bought many of these over the years I have had had my fridge freezer. Very annoying and a complete waste of money. Do not buy. I purchased the correct filter for my fridge.

This filter is easy to change, follow the instructions. This definitely needs a push upwards to engage the 'O' rings on to their location surfaces. I wet the rings before the new filter goes into place.

Since moving to the area I now live in I haven't been able to drink tap water, due to whatever additives or processes South Staffordshire Water company put into our water supply. It's got so bad that my throat swells and I then struggle to eat! I recently bought a fridge that requires these filters for the mains water supply that is plumbed into the fridge. As you can guess I was sceptical about drinking the water - no other filtering process has had any effect to help the reaction I get. But to my delight I tentatively discovered I can drink the water from my fridge after it has passed through the filtering system, with no reaction at all to myself and the water tastes nicer too. If anyone else has a similar problem I highly recommend. They are however the most expensive filter I have ever come across and a tad fiddly to fit with the force required above a glass shelf. But I guess over time the money I will save on buying bottled water will cover the cost. I sincerely hope however that production of these will continue for the life of my fridge/freezer, otherwise I will not be a happy lady.
