Smart Octopus in Samsung Pay is as competitive as physical Octopus. Payments can be done by simply tapping your phone is powered off or out-of-battery*. No screen-on or verification is required. Latest 40 transactions record can be viewed in Samsung Pay and each successful transaction will trigger vibration. All records are in one glance.
^ Based on compatibility of Samsung Pay on Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and/or Near Field Communication (NFC) card terminal, card terminal may need software upgrades. Samsung Pay is exclusive to selected Samsung smartphone models, participating card networks, card issuers (credit and/or debit cards) and merchants.
* When running out of power, Smart Octopus still supports limited number of transactions
With only a few steps, Smart Octopus can be easily added to Samsung Pay; or the remaining value and most of the services and offers** from physical Octopus^ can be transferred to Smart Octopus. Even you switch your smartphone, you can be easily transfer Smart Octopus to your new smartphone.
*The physical Octopus after transferring to Smart Octopus will be cancelled and cannot be used again. Only Anonymous On-Loan Adult / Elder Octopus and Personalised On-Loan Adult / Elder Octopus with a 9-digit Octopus number
(eight digits plus one single digit inside the bracket, e.g. 12345678(9)) can be transferred to Smart Octopus.
**Most of the services / offers can be transferred excludes Hourly and Monthly Parking Management#, MTR Park & Ride Scheme#.
# These services / offers cannot be automatically transferred, you can add a new Smart Octopus and register these services/offers to Smart Octopus again.
In addition to Automatic Add Value Service (AAVS) and cash top-up, Smart Octopus users can add value to Smart Octopus anytime using credit cards in Samsung Pay. If you lost your smartphone, you can use the "Find My Mobile" service to lock or wipe the Smart Octopus.
