How to troubleshoot if the screen brightness of your Samsung TV changes automatically or is too dark

How to resolve automatically changing brightness

If the function that automatically adjusts the screen brightness according to the surrounding brightness of the TV is set to On, your screen may automatically become brighter or darker while watching TV. If your TV is flickering or dimming sporadically, you may try adjusting the TV settings below to see if the problem can be resolved.

Contrast Enhancer is a function that automatically adjusts your TV's brightness so that the difference between bright and dark areas is not excessive. When this feature is turned on, your screen may automatically appear brighter or darker. To turn off the Contrast Enhancer function, follow the steps below.

Step 1.
Go to Settings > All Settings.

Step 2.
Select Picture.

Step 3.
Select Expert Settings.

Step 4.
Select Contrast Enhancer.

Step 5.
Select Off to disable this feature.

The Brightness Optimization function automatically adjusts the picture brightness according to the ambient light. When this function is turned on, the screen may appear dimmed or brightened depending on the ambient light. To disable the Brightness Optimization function, follow the steps below.

Step 1.
Go to Settings > All Settings.

Step 2.
Select General & Privacy.

Step 3.
Select Power and Energy Saving.

Step 4.
Turn off Brightness Optimization to disable this feature.

Note: This function is disabled when Intelligent Mode (Adaptive Picture) is turned on.

The Motion Lighting function can reduce power consumption by automatically adjusting the brightness according to the movement of the screen. When this function is turned on, the screen may appear dimmed or brightened according to screen movement. To disable the Motion Lighting function, follow the steps below.

Step 1.
Go to Settings > All Settings.

Step 2.
Select General & Privacy.

Step 3.
Select Power and Energy Saving.

Step 4.
Turn off Motion Lighting to disable this feature.

Note: This function is disabled when Intelligent Mode (Adaptive Picture) is turned on.

On the TV models with AI features available, Adaptive Picture is provided to enhance your viewing experience. AI detects the brightness of your surroundings and analyzes the content you're viewing. It also recognizes the content genre and automatically adjusts picture settings to match your preferences.

However, if you do not prefer the AI-adjusted picture, you can turn this feature off:

Step 1.
Go to Settings > All Settings.

Step 2.
Select Advanced Features.

Step 3.
Select AI Mode Settings.

Step 4.
If AI Mode is on, select Adaptive Picture.

Step 5.
Select Off to disable.

How to resolve low brightness issue

If you feel like the brightness of your TV screen is too low, you can check your Brightness and other related Picture settings.

Check if you have accidentally lowered the brightness value of your TV. If yes, try increasing the brightness value.

Step 1.
Go to Settings > All Settings.

Step 2.
Select Picture.

Step 3.
Select Expert Settings.

Step 4.
Adjust Brightness with the Left or Right buttons on your Smart Remote according to your preference.

You can also access the Brightness setting quickly by pressing the Settings/Number/Color button on your Smart Remote.

Step 1.
Press the Settings/Number/Color button repeatedly until the Settings menu appears.

Step 2.
Navigate to and select Brightness.

Step 3.
Adjust Brightness with the Left or Right buttons on your Smart Remote according to your preference.

If you prefer choosing Picture Mode by yourself, you can turn Adaptive Picture Off to tailor your TV's visual performance for perfect picture quality and optimal enjoyment. To adjust the Picture Mode function, follow the steps below after turning off the Adaptive Picture function under AI mode settings:

Step 1.
Go to Settings > All Settings.

Step 2.
Select Picture.

Step 3.
Select Picture Mode.

Step 4.
Select a Picture Mode from the list as you prefer. The picture mode effect will be reflected when you navigate to the corresponding option.

Note: If Adaptive Picture is turned on, only AI Optimized and AI Customization will appear as available options under the Picture Mode menu.

You can also access the Picture Mode setting quickly by pressing the Settings/Number/Color button on your Smart Remote.

Step 1.
Press the Settings/Number/Color button repeatedly until the Settings menu appears.

Step 2.
Navigate to Picture Mode.
The Picture Mode will change each time you press the Select button on your Smart Remote.

If your TV screen is still dark even after adjusting the brightness, you can check if the Energy Saving Solution feature has been enabled.

Step 1.
Go to Settings > All Settings.

Step 2.
Select General & Privacy.

Step 3.
Select Power and Energy Saving.

Step 4.
Turn off Energy Saving Solution to disable this feature.
