I have deployed almost 600 of these this year alone all over the UK. For what you get they are a pretty good Tablet. The ruggedness of it, the replaceable battery are all helpful in a busy work environment. We wished the device was faster at booting up as this causes crews to get frustrated. We are very happy about the dimensions being the same as the previous model. This has allowed us to reuse our charge cradles from the last devices, do keep this for the next model. The size of the screen is great for our crews to use as it's not too small to see the wording from the vehicles seat but it's also not too big to be a distraction or obstruction.
I recommended this product.

The device was purchased primarily for the brightness of the display, and suitability for outdoor use within the business. Overall, it is living up to expectations - with a couple of exceptions. These are: 1. The stylus holder is geared for right-handed users only and is a very tight fit. 2. Yesterday, I was removing the stylus from its holder (with my right hand) and the hexagonal top snapped off leaving the stylus in the holder. It had to be extracted with pliers. Now has to be carried separately. The stylus is an all-plastic affair and a hole is drilled through just beneath that hexagonal end - this leaves two thin pillars forming the top of the stylus - as I discovered, it does not take much to break these. I understand a replacement stylus is a significant price - besides, a replacement will intrinsically have exactly the same weakness. So, I'm not paying that sort of money to see the same issue emerge. For outdoor usage, a ruggedized device for which the stylus is a key reason for purchase - the device overall is diminished in its usefulness. I would reserve my recommendation for when the stylus is also suitably ruggedised for outdoor, or for that matter general, usage.

I bought the device to use for navigation om my motorcycle. Display is not bright enough in sunlight, I need to angle the screen to shade as much as possible. I find the GPS loses position frequently and coupled with poor battery performance the Active 5 has not met my expectations. On the plus side it seems to get regular software updates and appears to be durable so far after around 18 months of use.

With 600 nits brightness and Vision Booster on the display, the screen does provide enhanced outdoor visibility, but we understand that this may not always be the case in direct sunlight. Regarding GPS connectivity and battery performance, please ensure that your Tab is running the latest software. You can check this in Settings > Software update > Download and install. The battery can provide up to 15 hours of Internet usage time on one charge, so we wouldn't expect you to experience poor performance. Excellent on-go device both for outdoor and indoor use. Bright anough to use it even on sunny days. Comfortable for one-hand usage for long term. Exellent everyday work horse, at least for me.

I purchased the Galaxy Tab Active 5 less than eight months ago, and can honestly say I almost regretted my purchase almost from day one. Alas, there was no other similar sized product on the market, so I very reluctantly kept it. The overall design seems to be 8 years out of date. It is a VERY heavy, (over 500 gms with case and S pen), clunky and deficient device, with far less features, versatility and under-performs even when tasked with the most basic requirements. As compared to an A Series mobile device, it is way under par, not to mention Samsung's most recent A series Tab range, all of which are available at less than half the price! The interface is also very poor, and lacks many of the flexible features found in recent models of the A series mobiles. As for the camera, it is pathetic offering very poor performance in both image quality and flexibility, often struggling to focus correctly even when photographing simple subject matter. As for the hardware this too is barely acceptable, especially since it is completely underpowered with a ridiculously weak 4900 mAh battery. Contrary to Samsung’s ridiculous claims that it can run for many hours, I have found this to be a complete fallacy, since the device will invariably run out of juice with just a few hours of active use. As for memory, with just 6Gb of RAM - of which 50% of it is never available – the Active 5 Tab is sluggish and underperforms when multi-tasking, hence Samsung have completely mis-named the device... They should have called it "Inactive 24/7" As for the software this too fails on many fronts, with frequent performance glitches and more often than not, app' notification failures. Furthermore, most recently, and at less than 8 months old, the fingerprint detector has ceased to work. More failure! It seems odd to me that the most recent A Series tab, (the A9 8.7" Tab), which is the in a sense the 'starter tab' from the Samsung brand, includes more performance, memory, and features than this "want-to-be" professional device, all the while at less than half the price. If Samsung wish to be serious about targeting the professional sector, then they would do well to create an 8" tablet with 'real' features, far less weight, and brilliant performance matching their S Series tablets. Overall, this terrible tablet has seriously dented my confidence in the Samsung brand,’ making me wonder why on earth they have ‘conned’ professional users to invest in this dreadful product? From my perspective, the Tab Active5 is absolute rubbish and a complete waste of money! Do I recommend the Galaxy Active5? Absolutely not!
