Are there any health and safety factors I should be aware of when using the Gear VR?

Is there anything I should do before using Gear VR?

Read and follow all setup instructions, and make sure the headset is configured and adjusted for the specific user.
If you are pregnant, elderly, suffer from psychiatric disorders, a heart condition or have any pre-existing binocular vision abnormalities, you should consult a doctor prior to use.

Gear VR users experience flashing content right in front of their eyes. How does Samsung assure this does not result in serious health problems such as seizures? Is there any risk of an epileptic fit?

Samsung conducted clinical trials to ensure Gear VR  does not cause serious health problems.
As stated in the Health & Safety Manual, about 1 in 4,000 users may experience severe dizziness, seizures, epileptic seizures or blackouts triggered by light flashes or patterns, which can also occur while watching TV or playing video games.
Such seizures can occur even to those with no prior seizure history and are more common in children and young people under the age of 20. Anyone who has had a seizure, loss of awareness or other symptom linked to an epileptic condition should see a doctor before using the headset.

Why should I take off my glasses to wear the Gear VR ? Is it even possible to see the content with diminished eyesight without glasses?

We recommend taking off glasses when using Gear VR to reduce the possible risk of injury. More information surrounding this safety aspect is included in the Health & Safety Manual.
It is possible to adjust the viewing condition via the focal adjustment wheel. Without glasses, you will feel more comfortable watching a movie while wearing Gear VR.

What has Samsung done to minimise dizziness?

In our virtual reality trial, Samsung tested all possibilities through countless simulation processes according to the various user scenarios. Through this testing, we believe we have minimised dizziness effects and have optimised a comfortable fit for users.
