How to activate Wi-Fi calling on a Galaxy smartphone

Wi-Fi Calling lets you make and receive calls and send messages over a Wi-Fi connection when your mobile network signal isn't available. For this feature to work, your phone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network, have an active SIM card inserted, and Wi-Fi calling must be enabled by your network provider.

Please note: Wi-Fi Calling may not be available depending on your network and device

There are two ways to activate Wi-Fi Calling, through the Quick settings panel or through the Phone app.

Please note: If you can't see the menu options below on your phone, please contact your network provider to check that Wi-Fi Calling is available on your network and activated for your device.

Through the Quick settings panel:

1 Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to reveal the Quick settings panel
2 Tap the Wi-Fi Calling icon to activate Wi-Fi calling

Through the Phone app:

1 Open the Phone app

2 Tap the More options icon. It will appear as three dots
The more options icon is located at the upper right side of the Phone app
3 Tap Settings
Settings is selected in the Phone app
4 Tap the switch to activate Wi-Fi Calling

Please note: If you can't see the Wi-Fi calling options above on your phone, please contact your network provider to check that Wi-Fi Calling is available on your network and activated for your device.

5 If a pop-up box appears asking you to enter your emergency contact information, review and enter the information requested, then tap Save

Please note: you can update your emergency information later by navigating to Wi-Fi Calling, and then tapping Emergency Location Information or Update Current Emergency Address.

6 To deactivate Wi-Fi calling, tap the switch again
1 Open the Phone app
2 Tap the more options icon. It will appear as three dots
3 Tap Settings
4 Tap Wi-Fi Calling, then choose your preferences:
  • Mobile network preferred: Your mobile network will be used for calls. If your network is unavailable, Wi-Fi will be used.
  • Wi-Fi preferred: Your phone's Wi-Fi network will be used for calls. If Wi-Fi is unavailable, the mobile network will be used.
1 Make sure that your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. A strong network connection is necessary to use this feature. Swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the Quick settings panel. Check that the Wi-Fi icon is activated.
2 Check that your network supports Wi-Fi Calling for your device and that Wi-Fi Calling is activated on your account.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact your network provider for further assistance.
