I can't connect to Wi-Fi on my Samsung Galaxy device

Please note: Any prompt that says "Authentication Error" is related to an incorrect password. Please contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance in changing your Wi-Fi network password.

Forget the NetworkClick to Expand
1 Go to "Settings".
Tap to enter the Settings menu on the Samsung Note10
2 Tap "Connections".
Tap Connections on the Samsung Note10
3 Tap "Wi-Fi".
Tap to enter Wi-Fi menu on the Samsung Note10
4 Tap the Settings icon next to the Wi-Fi network you are having trouble with.

5 Tap "Forget".

This will remove any saved information on your device that could be interfering with the authentication.

6 Try to reconnect to network again by tapping the network and entering the password, if required.
Reset Network SettingsClick to Expand

Resetting the network settings will clear out anything potentially interfering with the network connectivity. It will reset:

 

  • Wi-Fi information
  • Mobile data information (which will be read from your SIM card and re-saved to the device automatically)
  • Bluetooth connections

 

The steps to follow to Reset Network settings depend on the Android Operating System that your device is running.

 

Android 9 (Pie)

Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings

 

Android 7 (Nougat) and Android 8 (Oreo)

Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings

 

Android 6 (Marshmallow)

Settings > Backup & Reset > Reset Network Settings

Try connecting using the WPS Push ButtonClick to Expand

If your router supports the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) Push Button, try connecting the two using the steps below. Connecting your Galaxy device using the WPS Push Button allows you to connect to your Wi-Fi without having to enter the Wi-Fi password.

Please note: WPS Push Button setting isn't available on Galaxy devices operating on Android OS Version 9.0 (Pie).

1 Go to "Settings".
2 Tap "Connections".
3 Tap "Wi-Fi".
4 Tap "Advanced".
5 Tap "WPS Push Button".
6 Tap the WPS Button on your router to connect the two.
Power cycle the router and your mobile deviceClick to Expand

Switch off your router's power (at the wall or with the power button on the router) and wait 2-3 minutes to turn it back on. While you're waiting, press the Power button or button combination on your mobile device and tap "Restart". 

 

Once the router has successfully connected to the internet again, try to connect to your network on your mobile device.

 

Make sure there is no interference between the router and your mobile device. Concrete walls, fridges and microwaves can all interrupt the Wi-Fi signal.

Deactivate Airplane or Flight ModeClick to Expand

Check Flight Mode by swiping down from the top of the screen on your device to access the Notification Panel. Tap Airplane/Flight mode icon to turn it off - or tap it on and off again to be sure.

Try to connect in Safe ModeClick to Expand

Safe mode will restrict any third-party applications that could be interfering with your device being able to connect to a Wi-Fi network. If you can connect to Wi-Fi networks while the device is in Safe Mode; you'll need to uninstall whichever app is causing the issue. Finding the app that is causing the problem is a task onto itself; it's best to start with apps most recently downloaded and work backwards. You can always re-install apps that were mistakenly uninstalled.

Check that you are in rangeClick to Expand

Next to the Wi-Fi network you are trying to connect is an icon which indicates the strength of the signal. Having a weak signal may cause connectivity issues.

 

If you are receiving a weak signal, try moving closer to the Wi-Fi source and connect again.

 

If you are unable to move closer to the Wi-Fi source, place a Wi-Fi extender in between your location and the location of the router. Wi-Fi extenders can be purchased from most electronics stores.

Perform a factory data resetClick to Expand

The last steps in determining whether the Wi-Fi connectivity issues are software or hardware related is to perform a Factory Data Reset of the device. If a Factory Reset does not resolve the problem, it is possible that there is a hardware issue with your device. If so, please contact Samsung Support for further assistance.
