What to do when Picture not clear/ displaying a split screen/ color is distorted

Last Update date : Oct 12. 2020

If your TV does not display a clear picture, displays a split screen, or displays distorted colors when you play your DVD player, chances are that the player is in Progressive Scan Mode and either your TV is not compatible with progressive scan or it’s not connected properly to accept a progressive signal.

To correct the picture distortion, press the [Progressive] button on the front panel of the DVD player repeatedly until the picture is correct.

Note : Some DVD players do not have a progressive scan button in the front, but instead have a progressive scan switch on the back. Also, the button or switch may be labeled P-Scan.

If the problem continues, do the following:

1 Verify the DVD player is connected to the TV correctly.
2 Make sure your video connections are secure, and that the cables are connected to the correct jacks by matching the colors on the output jacks of the DVD player to the colors on the input jacks of the TV.
3 Try a new video cable. The original cable may be defective.
4 Verify the type of signal your TV accepts through the input jack to which you’ve connected the player - 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p - and make sure the player is set accordingly.

Note : The signal types your TV accepts are listed in the TV's owner's manual.
