One day it just decided to keep the disk. Tried power cycling, resetting it - nothing helps. The only way is to unscrew the top lid and then push the paper clip through the hole on the side of the drive.

there hasn't been an update to the firmware on this player for years. as a result, the player won't play newer fox blu-rays and generates a "this disc does not meet the specifications" error before ejecting the disc. the player will play fox 4k uhd discs and older fox blu-rays, but it won't play newer bd titles, including blu-ray 3d. i have hundreds of 4k uhds and blu-rays and have tested my theory, but it's only the new fox blu-rays that cause the problem. i have the latest firmware upgrade (1015) and have tried a factory reset of the device. i have also tried turning off bd-live and prohibiting a wireless connection altogether, but nothing will make this player play a new fox blu-ray. it's beyond frustrating.

Truly awful. Changes to Blu-Ray disk AACS standard means this machine no longer plays mire modern blu-ray disks. Player is now a heap of junk. Requires a firmware update from Samsung which isn’t forthcoming. Last time I buy any Samsung.

Hei! Jeg har hat denne en god stund nå, å bruker den jevnlig. Alle mine blu-ray plater funker fint på denne. Men de 2 siste filmene jeg har kjøpt på Blu-Ray så vil den ikke spille dem av. Får en feil melding (kan ikke spille av plate. Denne platen oppfyller ikke spesifikasjonene). Har ikke fått denne meldingen tidligere på nye filmer som er kjøpt inn.

Used it three or four times, now when I turn it on, there are all these lines through the bottom of of the screen. It is not my TV, tv works fine with Apple TV and live TV. Tried using different HDMI cables, and inputs, it is definitely just a poor quality blue ray player that has conked out after watching three movies.

I had originally bought this 4k Blu ray player when it first was available at best buy and had issues with it playing any Blu ray or 4k movies! But played DVD's just fine. So I returned it after about 2 years cause of this issue and had got a new one and now it's doing it again and everything is up to date!!? Complete waste of money in my opinion for only getting about 2 years out of it and I rarely used it and took extremely good care of it! Even Still has the plastic wrap on it. I'd give it 5 stars if this issue didn't keep occurring. I love Samsung products but this player is a total waste of money u unless you plan on buying a new one ever 2 years or so. Very disappointed with this player!

I bought this player after reading countless reviews of blu ray players from a variety of manufacturers. This was consistently rated the best by many. I have not been disappointed. It is responsive and displays impressive picture quality. However, there is a major flaw with the unit: its remote control. It is very small and nearly impossible to operate. Why design engineers would pair this remote with an otherwise superior player is beyond me. It is so bad I searched the internet for a replacement and bought a remote (AK59-00167A) from an earlier Samsung model. It works perfectly. They should have left well enough alone.

I got a replacement for this model because some of my "homemade" movies wouldn't work, however the same problem with the replacement. What is odd is my old Samsung blu ray does play those same movies no problem. Other than this issue its a nice machine. The remote doesn't operate as smoothly as I wished (typing in info). All in all it is a nice player. when the movie didn't play there was no error message to research. Just a blank screen. That was concerning.

Happy with the quality of the product until remote stopped working. Finding out this is a common problem. Stopped working all of the time and getting worse as time goes on. Also not happy with the size of the remote larger fingers pushed multiple buttons at once.

The product actually great especially in UHD 4K mode. But the only issue right now for me is that it stopped working for no reason at all. I believe I've only used this for about 6x times watching 4K movies and now it does not turning on anymore (no power) Sadly it is now out of warranty :-(

My only issue so far is I have not been able to sign in to my Samsung account on the player, nor have I been able to access AmazonPrime to view their free movies. Not sure whether it is a wi-fi problem or that I can't scroll and choose the correct charcters on the on screen keyboard.

Samsung has always been my go-to supplier of electronics. Their quality is consistently high and their prices are reasonable. The video and audio coming out of this unit are extraordinary! While the available 4K content is limited, this is certainly the way forward until or unless a new breakthrough in A/V occurs. Pros: Great audio and video Dual HDMI output (one audio only for input to a receiver) Easy setup and use Cons Very limited App selection in the Samsung Apps area No customization ability for apps you use most For some reason, certain extremely popular apps are simply not available and no explanation is ever given (I can't name the apps or this review will not be published.)

Bought it for the new Samsung 4K TV. Works great. I see it has all the smart stuff, and so does the TV, so I haven't used the apps in the player. The remote is very miniature and hard to read with out glasses as well as replay just a small frame... 7 months and still trying to figure it out. It's wonderful to plug in a disk and the TV automatically turns to Blue Ray mode, love this intelligent feature!

The UBD-8500K was easy to set up using the enclosed optical cable. All of the applications that I wanted were already included. The application that I did not want were easy to remove. I used my Logitech Harmony so I have not had much experience with the included remote, except during setup. I am pleased with the quality of both DVD and Blu-ray playback.

This is my second Samsung Ultra HD Player UBD-K8500. We have used the first one for about a year and decided to get a second one because it is so superior to what we had before. The colors are deep, rich, bright, and the adjustments amazing. The sound goes directly to our stereo system, and is so clear and rich that even though I am hard of hearing, I don't need headphones or to play it louder than what my wife likes. So you can't go wrong with this Unit. By the way, we tried it on an old 12 year + Plasma TV and it also made an incredible difference.

I love this player's performance. Blu-ray and 4K DVD playback is excellent. The picture seems to jump out of the TV. Colors are true and the depth-of-field is uncanny. A truly remarkable player. My only reason for not giving it 5's across the board is the the remote control is small and the player is a little sluggish when using the Next and Back keys as Forward and Rewind.It's also very easy to hit the Power button when rewinding and you want to hit Play. This is my 3rd Samsung DVD Player (1 HD, 1 Blu-ray & 1 Blu-ray/4K) The remotes on the Blu-ray players each have their issue, while the HD player's remote is very functional.

You will notice that I emphasized this 2016 player is 4k with HDR Player and also has......." 3D on board". I own three Samsung 4K TV's. A top of the line 2014 78 inch and a top of the line 2015 78 inch and a 2015 88 inch. All these TV's have 3D on board and capable of 4K HDR. I recently purchased 3 UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player's for each of the TV's and I must say they are just great. Love the quality of the picture as well as the 3D and the HDR. I truly feel Samsung and all the manufactures should consider putting 3D back in the 2018 series lines as many of us true cinema lovers would like to have all the great technology that we have purchased. I have a huge library of 3D movies that I would not give up enjoying them without the right TV and Blu-Ray player. In my opinion the 4K HDR feature that has not proven itself in regards to quality 4 K HDR as most movies are not produced in true 4K to begin with. The producers need to take the Blu-Ray releases of movies more seriously and not releasing older Blu-Ray movies in 4K that look just as good up-scaled normal Blu-Ray releases. I have read multiple reviews of 4k HDR movies and find very few titles that exceed the quality of normal Blu-Ray releases that are up-scaled. , Samsung has done a outstanding job on there 2014, 2015 TV's that included 3D in their top of the line models as well as this 2016 UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player. Movie lovers I hope will encourage all major features be included in future TV's and Blu-Ray players. At the writing of this review I did not notice 3D in the specs of the 2017 model on this web site, so 3d lovers if this is the case you need to purchase the 2016 model. Enjoy your movies and support features that are important to you. Your voice will help for future products.

I originally bought this as the multi region model. I set it up, then as I began it told me it needed to update itself. This broke the unit and I sent it back. Being my only Samsung product I was not very happy with Samsung. Eventually, I ordered a regular version of this unit and it performs very well. Enough to change my mind and I just pre-ordered a Galaxy S 8 phone.

I really like this player. I hooked it up to an LG 4K UHDTV. My only complaint so far is the REMOTE to the SAMSUNG 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is TOO SMALL. While trying to re log into all of my apps, I kept getting sent to the Home Screen because the home button was right on top of the UP arrow. So trying to log into PANDORA or VUDU was not easy.

I must admit that when this unit is paired with a 4K TV it is magical. I don't mind spending a little more than usual to see the beauty in the Hi Def movies that are out there. Really amazing to see true black with out blotches, reds that jump off the screen, and yes the rest of the color spectrum is equally incredible. If you already have a 4K TV this is the best upgrade you can get. Hope you enjoy the viewing as much as I have

i love this DVD player. it has great functionality, the picture is breathtaking and for the price i think it is a good investment for your home entertainment center. the 4k UHD is awesome, the standard DVD upconvert is awesome, i have zero complaints about this product. i cant say enough good things about it. i got netflix on it, i also have amazon tv, and youtube as well. if you buy this, you wont be disappointed.

I really like the system and quality picture. There are a few things I did not like. It is too noisy when its reading disk. The disk eject is fast and out dated. It should eject much smoother. The remote "Home" button should be located elsewhere. When I am almost finished entering information, I keep hitting the home button by accident and I have to start all over.

Calidad de imagen soberbia, buen nivel de sonido, carga del Blue ray buena aunque el tiempo de encendido es un poco lento. Tengo la TV Ue 55 js9000 y me ocurre en repetidas veces que al apagar el reproductor el sistema tintinea y aunque lo hayas apagado vuelve a encenderse con lo que si te habías conectado a algún canal vuelves a perderlo, por que se ha vuelto a conectar al canal del reproductor y hay veces que me ocurre eso hasta en 3 ocasiones seguidas. Esa es la única pega que tengo del reproductor por lo demás me parece un buen producto aunque me parece que su precio es excesivo para ser un reproductor y no tener funciones de grabación.

The unit seems to be well constructed and easy to use. I do not have a 4K type TV as yet, but wanted to be ready when I upgrade in the future. I currently have a 1080p TV and I tested the unit with both current BR and old DVD discs. Both played very well.

This Blu-Ray Player has it all! Virtually every feature one could hope for, slick design, and excellent performance. Although the Product Packaging does not specify 3D capability (2017 version), it in fact has it built in. 4K and 3D capabilities were a hard requirement to pair with our new 4K/3D TV, and this was one of the few on the market that provide these features. A few minor drawbacks: The player can be a bit noisy at times (when the disc is spinning during searches or when disc is initially inserted). The remote is considerably lacking. It only offers a 'Skip Back( |<< ) or Skip Forward ( >>| ) button and lacks a separate control for just Fast Reverse and Fast Forward. Also - we generally enjoy it at night when the room is darkened - remote is all black and not back-lit, which makes it almost impossible to use without leveraging a flashlight. All-in-all, I would still recommend this Player to anyone looking for a quality unit to play disc-based media type on the market.

Hooked up easily in about 10 minutes and thoroughly enjoyed the brilliant Pacific Rim in HRD! But - the apps are pitiful and "My Apps" is a lie. You cannot customize your frequently used apps like Netflix, Vudu, or Amazon Prime. It should be called "Samsung Rarely Used Downloaded Apps" since that's all you can customize. A jokel Took 30 minutes with a non-English speaking person from southeast Asia before I got to a supervisor that spoke flawless English and confirmed my fears - bad design. So, if you need a unit immediately, I'd recommend for 4k UHD blu ray playing only. The remote is also way too small and quirky in design

Nie wiem do czego inni podpinają ten odtwarzacz że są niezadowoleni?! U mnie wszystko czyta nawet 4K przez USB i nic nie zrywa, dźwięk podpięty do Cambridge Audio wywołuje dreszcze, bardzo czysto i dokładnie, obraz do Samsung 65 HU7200 istna bajka, miałem wcześniej inny BD Samsung i też było ok szczególnie przez funkcje BD Wise. Polecam bez wachania sprzęt po obniżce wart swojej ceny, jeszcze jedna zaleta: Bardzo ciche dzielenie mechanizmu.

The player is great so far. The only problem I had was registering. I had to look up model number for it to accept the serial number then it would not allow me to put correct purchase date of January 10, 2017 because it only went up to 2016. So in order to be able to register I put December 31, 2016. Registration site needs improvement.

Purchased the UBD-K8500 at the end of 2016. Easy setup right out of the box using the default settings for viewers that do not like to mess with all of the detail settings. l like to get the best possible picture quality so I wanted to calibrate the picture settings between my new UBD-K8500 HDR 4K with my Samsung JS9000 SUHD TV. There is no UHD configuration disk that I know of at this time so I did the following steps below if you are interested. First I connected the main HDMI output directly to the TV HDMI 1 and the 2nd Audio HDMI directly to my AV receiver. All my other devices go through my A/V receiver first and one HDMI output to the TV HDMI 4 input. I started out with the Disney WOW Blu-Ray as the starting point for the calibration between the Samsung UBD-K8500 and Samsung JS9000 SUHD. Once I was happly with those settings I then did a few fine tune adjustments when watching sections of UHD movies (The Revenant & Suicide Squad) The biggest change was setting Smart LED "On-Standard" to reduce LED light clouding on dark scenes. I ended up with these settings and used the default setting if not listed below. All settings were done in a pitch dark room for movie watching. Samsung UBD-K8500 Settings: TV Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Original BD Wise: On Resolution: BD Wise HDMI Color Format: Auto HDMI Deep Color: Auto Samdung JS9000 Settings : First thing - change the "HDMI UHD Color" to ON for the HDMI input you are using. The TV will power off and on. Also make sure BD Wise is turned "ON" in the General settings. Picture Mode: Movie Blacklight: 18 Contrast: 100 Brightness: 45 - 47 Sharpness: 0 Dynamic Contrast: Off Black Tone: Off Color Space: Auto White Balance: 2 Point Auto Motion Plus: Standard Smart LED: Standard Cinema Black; On (I liked this setting because the black bars at top and bottom were nice and black)

This Blu-ray is very easy to use. I have all the apps in it that I use right there in front of me. The Sony Blu-ray I had before wouldn't even let me watch Netfix. The viewing quality is great. I was surprised the remote is so small, but it has everything I need. Samsung is a business I can trust.

This is my first 4k UHD player but it is very nice. SAMSUNG GUI is ok but performance is great. Colors and contrast are awesome. 4k BD are so much better than Regular R BD. I have had to rewatch many of My Blu Ray movies because they just look so much better. Set up was easy and quick. Load time was also fast. Nice player you can't go wrong.

A few months I was pushed into purchasing a 4k TV. With limited 4k options, I looked around for a good player and this seemed to be the defacto benchmark unit. It has a weird shape but that was minor issue. I was eager to test the performance but found 4k test videos sparse on the Internet. There are 3 faces to the unit: DVD/Blu-ray player, multimedia, apps. This seems to be trend to add more tricks to the pony. I thought the player side should be a blip but it came with AK59-00179A remote control. It is stripped down so you have to jump through hoops to do some basic things like fast forward and change languages/subtitles. I tried the regular remote for the Samsung DVD player and it worked great. The functionality is there, you just have buy a separate remote control to get around the problem. I then tried the multimedia side. After finding a few 4k test videos, I watched them on a USB thumb drive. The true 4k was impressive but the functionality of the multimedia was limited and when I tried to access a DLNA server I had set up on a Raspberry Pi, I had to go through a lot of folders just to reach the videos. I guess there wasn't much expectation to use the multimedia side. Most of the focus seems to have been on the apps side. I do not have a Samsung smartphone or tablet but I suspect there is better integration with those devices. It would have been nice to include a demo disc to show what the player is capable of doing. Just as with the introduction of HD, junk in junk out. A video that says 4k may just be scaled up 720 or 1080 and I expect a lot of videos that would be best left at their lower resolution rather than passing them off as something better. If you have a true 4k video, you will definitely notice the results with this player.

This unit does a great job of up-scaling other Blu-Ray and DVDs to look much better than they would otherwise look. The Samsung Smart app gives you access to multiple streaming services including Amazon and Netflix. The UHD movies look amazing on this player. When you see a Blu-Ray and think that is about as clear as it can get watch a UHD movie of the same title and you will be amazed.

I've had other Blu-ray players but this was my first Ultra 4K model. The set up and connect ability was straight forward. The picture quality is amazing with great color, clarity, and definition. I don't know why I didn't purchase one of these sooner. It is a great compliment to my Samsung 55" Ultra HD 4K television.

Easy to connect and use. Great picture quality and apps. Although, web site would not let me register the correct purchase date of 1/7/2017 because 2017 wasn't a selection in their menu.

Pros: - UHD/4K DVD play is great, but not a huge difference from HD on my 4K OLED 55" - Supports Home Media server (DLNA) - Easy WiFi connection, no buffering pauses - Reasonable price Cons: - Tiny little red/green/blue light on unit is almost invisible from across the room, so hard to tell if the unit is on, cycling, or off - Startup takes a long time, which makes the tiny little light so frustrating. This seems to be true if there is a disc in the tray, even though the default is not to play the disc - Home screen "Recommended" apps takes up a lot of real estate - forever - long after you've decided whether you want these app suggestions or not - An unimaginative selection of apps available, e.g., Netflix, Hulu, etc. No idea if this selection will improve. Most apps available are pretty useless for me. Caution: - I'm running a Sony STR-DN1050 receiver which does not support HDCP 2.2 so I couldn't send the player output through it. I had to go direct to the TV, and then pull back sounds to the audio receiver. BE SURE all the equipment in your connection path is HDCP 2.2 compatible, or it will be downgraded to HD.

Player works well, fast boot, no issues with the basic unit. That said, the app interface needs work. the pre-loaded recommended "Apps" cannot be edited (order displayed) nor added to the "MyApps" area. Not a major issue as it merely requires more clicks to get to the desired operation; however, it is just such a wart on an otherwise decent device.

I purchased the UBD-K8500 to go with the new 65" 8500 TV. The picture quality is amazing. Colors are realistic, detail is pinpoint, and there is no pixilation or artifacts. Another bonus is that with the newer Samsung TVs the connectivity is automatic. Both products can be operated with one remote and switching between DVD, and apps like Netflix are automatic and seamless. I highly recommend.

Your picture/sound are only as good as the equipment providing it and my new Samsung 75" 4K UHD TV needed an upgrade to 4K and this player provides that. The picture and sound are outstanding. You get what you pay for.

With the recent price drop, this is a great value, but irrespective of price, it is a great performer. Fast load times, breathtaking picture (on the Everest 4k Bluray), good app support.

This unit sports your traditional options seen on many Blue Ray players, and takes it a step further with the addition of ultra-high definition viewing, which is true 4K, not upscaling. It synchronizes well with the Samsung Smart 4K TV sets. Just open the disc drawer, and the unit comes on which takes the TV to the correct input to play. There is also a USB hub for playing media files from the player. I'm very pleased with the unit. The picture quality is excellent. This definitely is one of the best purchases I've made.

OK so it's not pretty in the eyes of most, a bit of an ugly duckling you might say, however in terms of performance it excels. Everything you throw at it works (Unlike the new Oppo 203), pristine UHD HDR from discs, great upscaling from Blu ray & it's fast loading. Apps work exactly as they should. I have heard some say it has a "Red push" certainly not in my case, colours from my Samsung display are as close to real life as you are going to get & image detail is superb. My only real niggle is the tiny toy like remote, however even that when you get used to it works very well.

Only if used with a 4K TV(I witnessed a few people who purchased the dvd player without having a 4K tv)....however , even the design was different than your usual player. It fits perfectly with my 4k curved tv
