If your Galaxy device appears to be unable to connect to Wi-Fi or unable to detect available Wi-Fi networks, the issue may be caused by an incorrect password, temporary software errors, router problems, or network settings. In some cases, third-party apps or outdated software may also affect Wi-Fi connectivity. Follow the troubleshooting steps below to restore Wi-Fi connections on your Galaxy device.
Note: Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the model and software version.
Temporary software or system errors may prevent Wi-Fi from connecting properly.
Restart using the power menu
Restart using the buttons
If the device freezes or the Restart menu does not appear:
If Wi-Fi still does not connect after restarting the device, check whether the device software is up to date. Software updates can be installed wirelessly or through the Smart Switch program on a PC.
Note: When updating wirelessly without Wi-Fi, mobile data charges may apply if the download exceeds your data allowance.
Wi-Fi connection issues may be caused by Wi-Fi being turned off, incorrect passwords, saved network errors, or recently installed third-party apps. Check the settings below and reconnect the Wi-Fi network.
Turn on Wi-Fi in Settings
Turn on Wi-Fi from the Quick settings panel
Remove and reconnect the Wi-Fi network
Check Wi-Fi in Safe mode
If Wi-Fi works normally in Safe mode, recently installed third-party apps may be causing the issue. Remove unnecessary apps in the order they were recently installed and restart the device.
Note: To exit Safe mode, restart the Galaxy device.
If Wi-Fi still does not connect after reconnecting the network, try resetting the network settings.
The wireless router or access point may be causing the connection issue. For wireless router and Wi-Fi security, avoid using simple passwords that can be easily accessed or shared. It is recommended to set a strong and secure password.
Check the router status
- Make sure the router firmware is updated to the latest version.
- Check whether the Wi-Fi network appears on other devices.
- If the network is not detected on other devices, contact the router manufacturer for support.
Note: If the wireless router firmware cannot be updated or the Wi-Fi network cannot be detected, contact the wireless router manufacturer for assistance.
Restart the router
- Disconnect and reconnect the router power cable.
- If the power cable cannot be removed, restart the router from its settings page.
- After restarting the router, try reconnecting the Galaxy device.
Note: Router settings and restart methods may vary depending on the manufacturer.
If the issue continues after trying the steps above, use Samsung Members Phone diagnostics to check the Wi-Fi status.
Note: Phone diagnostics is available only on Galaxy devices with the Samsung Members app installed.
