How do I set up Wi-Fi tethering on my Samsung Android device?

The Wi-Fi hotspot feature lets you share your mobile device’s data connection with other devices by turning your device into a wireless access point.

Your mobile device can be used as a wireless modem. You can share your device’s mobile data connection with a single computer.

1 From the home screen, choose Apps or swipe up to access your apps

5 Connect your device to your computer using the USB cable that came with your device
6 Use the toggle to enable to disable USB tethering

6 Tap the Wi-Fi sharing toggle to enable Wi-Fi sharing

Some devices may need to tap More before enabling Wi-Fi sharing.

8 Using the toggle, switch Mobile Hotspot on

To change the network name, you will need to:

You can change the amount of time before your mobile hotspot connection times out. This will only happen if a device hasn't been connected within the timeframe given. If you haven't changed the settings, the default time will be set to 20 minutes.

Adding an Allowed deviceClick to Expand

Before connecting a new device, you will need to check that Allowed devices only has been disabled. If this setting is enabled, it won't allow a new device to connect via the mobile hotspot. To find out how to disable this feature, please visit the Enable or disable Allowed devices article.

To add a device, you will need to:

1 From the home screen, choose Apps or swipe up to access your apps

2 Tap Settings

3 Tap Connections. If you don't see this step, skip to step 4.

5 Using the toggle, turn on the Mobile Hotspot. Some devices will need to tap Mobile hotspot before turning on the Mobile hotspot.

6 On your other device, turn the Wi-Fi on then tap the Wi-Fi network you would like to connect to

Depending on the model of your device and operating system, you will need to go:

Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > select the available network you require

Or

Settings > Wi-Fi > select the available network you require

On your other device turn on the Wi-Fi, then choose the device your connecting to
7 Enter the password then tap Connect
On your other device, enter the password then tap Connect
8 On your device, it will show connected devices. Tap the plus icon
On your phone, you will see your other device showing under connected devices
9 Tap Add

10 The other device will be added to your Allowed devices
Confirmation your device has been added to allowed devices

When connecting a new device, you will need to make sure the Allowed devices only setting has been disabled. If this setting is enabled, it won't allow a new device to connect via the mobile hotspot or tethering.

Hiding my device will stop your device appearing on Wi-Fi searches. To enable or disable Hiding my device, you will need to:

1 From the home screen, choose Apps or swipe up to access your apps

3 Tap Connections. If you don't see this step, skip to step 4.
