Why are there ads on my lock screen and how can I get rid of them?

Samsung does not put advertisements on your home or lock screen.  Advertisements on your home or lock screen will be caused by an app. You will need to disable or uninstall the app to get rid of the adverts. 

 

Depending on the purpose of the app and its permissions, it's possible that the app is in violation of Google Play services terms. These state that adverts on the lock screen are not allowed unless the stated purpose of that app relates to the lock screen. 

How do I know which app is causing the problem?

 

If the ads have only recently started appearing, it is likely due to an app you have either recently downloaded or an old app that has recently updated and changed its permissions. 

 

The below apps have added advertisements to the lock screen at some point. If you have any of these apps on your device, try uninstalling or disabling them to solve the problem: 

 

- Super-Bright LED Flashlight/Torch
- ES App Locker
- GO apps (e.g. GO Keyboard, GO Weather)
- KittyPlay
- Peel Remote app

- Photo Editor Pro

- TouchPal apps

- VideoShow video editor

- Xender 

- Z Camera (and Zero Team apps)

- HiFont

- Battery Doctor

- FotoRus

- UC Browser

- Apps2SD

- 360security

- Photo Collage Editor

- LOCX: App Lock

- XBrowser

- Solo Launcher

- Dolphin Browser 

How to find the app if it's not in the above list

 

After the problem has recently occurred, open the Google Play Store app on your device, then follow the below instructions. 

1 Tap Menu (the three lines on the top left corner)
2 Tap My apps & games (on some devices, you will need to choose apps & games first)
3 Tap Installed to see a list of installed apps
4 The Installed apps will show in alphabetical order by default. Tap the lines next to 'Alphabetical' to change the sort order to 'Last Used.'

 

The app causing the ads will be high up on the Last Used list. 

 

Once you have identified the app, you can report it to the Play Store if you suspect it is in violation of the Play Store terms and services, by going into the install page for that app in the Play Store, scrolling all the way to the bottom of the screen and then tapping Flag as inappropriate

 

Google Play Protect was introduced last year as a measure to scan and check apps. You can scan all the apps you have by going into the Play Store menu, then tapping Play Protect (you may need to scroll down a little), then selecting Scan device for security threats.
