How to fix poor picture quality in Samsung TV?

Last Update Date : Apr 23. 2019

If you're experiencing poor picture quality on your Samsung TV, you may need to check your image signal and connections.

Poor image is most commonly because of two things, Information for each Image Quality issue is mentioned below :

1. Signal Quality Click to Expand

Standard Definition (480i) signals look fuzzy on an HDTV. While many channels are now offered digitally and at a higher quality than analog, they are still 480i signals.

High definition TV always displays at a higher resolution no matter what the resolution of the incoming signal.

If the signal coming into the TV is not HD, the TV scales it to fit on the screen. The scaling causes the distortion and fuzzyness you see.

Picture 1

Picture 1: The above picture is an example of what 480i picture displayed on a standard 4:3, 480i television screen. Because the picture was made to fit this size screen at this resolution it looks clear and sharp.

Picture 2

Picture 2: The above picture is an example of what the same 480i signal would look like when it is expanded and scaled to fit your HD screen. Because of your TVs higher resolution and size a low resolution signal will look fuzzy and distored depending on your apect ratio setting.

2. Connection Method QualityClick to Expand

The quality of the connection method you use also heavily affects your image quality.

Connection methods, in order of highest quality to lowest quality, are as follows:

 • HDMI/ DVI

• VGA (PC)

• Component A/V

• S-Video

• Composite A/V

• Analog RF

If you are using any of the bottom 3 connections, your TV is always getting a 480i signal and the picture will look like Pic 2 above. Samsung strongly recommends you use a higher quality connection method from the top of the list.

Fixing the Problem

● You can press the info button available on TV remote to check the input resolution on the top of TV screen. If the resolution is set to low, it has to be changed to the optimum resolution of your TV screen.

● TV and set-top box connection have to be changed by using components / HDMI terminal to watch high resolution.

Perform Picture Test or check with pen drive. If picture is good while testing then it is fault of external device (ex.- Set-top-box). Contact the manufacture of external device.
