How to Create and Manage Modes and Routines on a Galaxy Device?

Choose a mode based on your current undertaking or location, or create routines for your frequent usage habits to make use of your smartphone more quickly.

On the Settings screen, tap Modes and Routines.

Adding modes

  • On the Settings screen, tap Modes and Routines → Modes.
  • Select a mode you want or tap Add mode → Custom to add your own modes.

Running modes Modes

 

will run automatically when their conditions are detected. You can also run them manually by tapping the button whenever you want.

  • To run modes manually, select the mode you want and tap Turn on.
  • To turn off a running mode, tap the mode and tap Turn off.

Adding routines

  • On the Settings screen, tap Modes and Routines → Routines.
  • Tap compass and select a routine you want or tap + to add your own routines. If you want to set the routine’s running condition to manual, tap Start manually. This option will appear only when there are no running conditions set. When a pop-up window appears, tap Add. You can add the routine to the Home screen as a widget and access it quickly.

Running routines

 Auto routines will run automatically when their conditions are detected. For routines for which you set the running condition to start manually, you can run them manually by tapping the button whenever you want.

To run routines manually, tap play next to the routine you want to run. Alternatively, tap the routine’s widget on the Home screen. To stop running routines, tap the routine under Running and tap Stop.

In addition to the preset suggested modes, you can create your own mode that does exactly what you want.

  1. Open Settings, and then tap Modes and Routines.

     

  2. Tap Add mode, and then tap Custom.

     

  3. Give your custom mode a name, color, and icon, then tap Done.

     

  4. If you'd like the mode to be triggered by an event, tap Turn on automatically. You can choose from some common triggers, or tap Add condition for even more options. Tap Done, once you've set the triggers.

     

  5. Tap Do not disturb, to silence calls and notifications while the mode is enabled.

     

  6. Tap Restrict app usage to limit the apps that can be accessed while the mode is enabled.

     

  7. Tap Change settings to see more actions that can be performed. Don't see the action you're looking for? Tap Add action for the full list of settings that can be changed, and actions you can trigger.

     

  8. Tap Wallpaper to set a wallpaper for your device so you'll know this mode is enabled at a glance.

 

Once you've set up the custom mode, you can access it from the Modes icon in quicksettings, or turn it on and off with Bixby or Google assistant. If you need to make changes to a mode, navigate to the modes tab, and then tap the mode you need to change. Make your changes and then tap Back to exit.
