What to do if your Samsung Galaxy device appears to keep restarting
If your Samsung Galaxy device restarts automatically, settings such as Auto optimisation or scheduled restarts may be causing the behaviour. In some cases, software updates, recently installed apps, or third-party applications can also trigger unexpected restarts. Follow the steps below to check Auto optimisation settings, review restart schedules, and troubleshoot other common causes of automatic restarts on your Galaxy device.
Note:
- Emergency security updates may restart the device automatically even when automatic software download settings are turned off, depending on your country or region.
- Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the model and software version.
You can enable Auto optimisation to automatically improve device performance by clearing unused apps, freeing memory, and restarting the device when necessary.
If you do not want the device to restart automatically, turn off these features.
Note:
- Even if both Restart when needed and Restart on schedule are turned off, a system restart may still occur depending on your device’s condition.
- Auto restart only runs when the device is not being used. By default, the screen must be off and the battery level must be at least 30%.
If your Galaxy device continues restarting unexpectedly after Auto restart settings have been disabled, a third-party app may be causing the issue.
Note: The app shown in example images is a sample app created for demonstration purposes only and is not an actual app.
